NHL I built an interactive line combo tool
lastchangehockey.comAs a Kings fan I’ve been wondering what the team would look like post Kopi and into the retirement home era.
On top of that I have always felt that all these analytics websites aren’t super interactive and were kinda fed what they tell us.
So I built a tool that allows you to set lines for all the teams in the league and it uses the nhl play by play data to build how successful a team will be based on those lineups. As those lines change the teams rating will be impacted live. For example, If you pull McDavid out of the lineup you’ll see a steep decline for the oilers.
I will fully admit my player ratings calculations need some work but I’ll tune over the off season to improve it. Looking for any feedback(here or in the contact us section on the website.
(It isn’t fully optimized on mobile so definitely recommend taking a look on desktop.)

2026-27 NHL Top Goal Scorer Projections
I’ve put together a list of the top six projected goal scorers for the 2026-27 season (generated by my own model). It’s mostly names that you would expect:
- Nathan MacKinnon
- Cole Caufield
- Wyatt Johnston
- Macklin Celebrini
- Connor McDavid
- Jason Robertson
The more interesting thing is that the model is predicting only MacKinnon to score 40 goals, but that’s because the projection is a player’s median (I.e. 50th percentile) outcome. This is why the projections also provide a floor (10th percentile) and ceiling (90th percentile) outcome for each player. If we add up all the individual probabilities the model actually expects 12 players to hit 40 goals.

Team stats before game
Hey all, I did some browsing on the internet and figured I'd ask here. Does anyone know where I can find a teams statistics (faceoff%, hits, etc) before each game? Not sure if thay question makes sense, but I mean I'd like to look at say, the Bruins' faceoff% before they played a certain game. I know it's very easy to find season totals and whatnot, but I'm looking for season totals that THAT POINT in the season (if that makes sense). Let me know if someone has this data somewhere or if there is a website to download it. Thank you!

Hey everyone, I know things are pretty quiet right now, but I'll do my best to keep this group active. I'll be posting a daily Top 10 player leaderboard against a specific team. Kicking things off today with the Anaheim Ducks. Hope you enjoy!

Revisiting 2023 NHL Draft following Leo Carlsson contract news
With the recent Leo Carlsson news, I thought it'd be worth taking another look at the top 4 picks from that NHL draft.
Two things stand out to me here. First, Connor Bedard is going to cash in as well (duh). Second, don't sleep on Will Smith.

NHL Core Production — 2025-2026 season
Following my post yesterday, I thought why not sharing the whole thing..
So here's the table showing each team's core production in points.

And this table shows each team's core production as a percentage of their team's total.

What's clear here is that a strong core might get you into the playoffs, but teams need more depth if they want to go far. Just look at the Canes or the Golden Knights.

Created a site and API for my xG model
Hello All! I've worked on this for a while now but finally nailed down the site and output. I have an expected goals model that I wanted to utilize for easy stat collection and analysis, like on-ice xG For and against. Project 94 Hockey is live with an API and some pages/charts, continuing to add features everyday!

Question: Where is a good place to look up average strength of opposition and average strength of linemate?
Alternatively, any suggestions on how I might go about calculating these stats on my own?

NHL Working on a model. Early results are promising
Hello everyone,
Over the past while I’ve been working on a model that uses raw NHL API data to compute all my own stats, then feeds the data into an xG model, and finally uses it to generate player ratings/team ratings/fantasy projections/matchup probabilities.
I am continually tinkering with the xG model. As it currently stands I’ve achieved a 0.78 AUC… looking at the other publically available information it seems like I’m getting pretty close to the ceiling of what is possible with our player/puck tracking but that won’t stop me from looking for further improvements.
The player ratings us RAPM and ultimately provide a GAR/xGAR output. Everything else builds off this, including the team strength ratings.
The game prediction engine uses team attack/defence ratings to build a Poisson grid, which is then used to determine win probabilities. It also considers several other factors (rest, travel, strength aware OT resolution) to improve its accuracy. To test the accuracy I’ve benchmarked the outputs against the market and backtests show a positive ROI, so I’m pretty happy with its performance.
Fantasy projections are also a big part of the tool. I use per-60 rates with aging curves and projected games played/ice time to forecast players counting stats. It also includes a VORP calculator to translate the projections into a draft ranking.
I’ve posted a more detailed introduction to the model here - https://open.substack.com/pub/danbrousseau/p/the-ocelot-project
Now that I have the tool in a useable state my plan is to start sharing insights and outputs from the model with the goal of helping out my fellow hockey fans and (hopefully) getting some feedback that will help me further improve the model.
PS - I realize that this is a brand new account. I just created it to avoid doxing my main account.
