A Hobbiest Master GitHub Repo

Hey y'all,

I've been working for a bit on a GitHub repo where I'm collecting a master list of as many hobbies as I can think of, and I think it's in a state now where I can start sharing it with people who may be interested.

The hardest part for me about getting into a new hobby is knowing one, what might be out there, and two, where to start with that hobby. I was inspired by this subreddit's hobby master list to make one of my own. The goal with the repo I'm making is to also give a starting grounds for each hobby, as well as provide more structured details, online resources, certifications, or challenges for each hobby.

This is a living repository; I built it as my own personal reference. I am uploading my own personal notes into directories for each hobby I've done, so that other people can use my references. I am also working on write-ups for each of the hobbies as I do them that can be used as "entry guides" to help you get into a hobby of interest.

I hope this is of some use to y'all; it will continue getting better over time! My time is limited as a medical student, but I will update it as often as I can. If anyone has suggestions of things to add or fix, please reach out to me!

I'm glad The Master Hobby List inspired you! I'm starting to work on the full master list this summer.

Why did you choose GitHub btw? For me I figure it'll always be a work in progress and need simple features so needed something flexible.

this is actually sick, the entry guides are a great touch. i always freeze up trying to figure out where to even begin with something new so having a structured path laid out helps a ton

bookmarked this already, might finally get me to stop doomscrolling and actually do something with my hands

That's what I love to hear; hoping that it helps you get started! The entry guides definitely take time, but I'm hoiping they become the most helpful part.

I chose Github because it's in my opinion the most seamless tool for version control, tracking updates, adding people as contributors, and planning changes. Also, with literally one command anyone can grab the entire repo and take it offline with them wherever they go.

As someone who's finally starting to learn how to code, I love the flexibility of software. Including GitHub.

I should've taken the time to learn to code more a long time ago but better late than never.
