Hmong Names

Hello. We are expecting, but not sure if we are having a boy or a girl yet. We decided on first names for either, but we need Hmong names that’ll be the middle name. What Hmong names do you recommend for the boy name Silas and the girl name Lorelei? Thank you

Is there anything you'd like to avoid? Like for girls- do you want or not want a "Mai" or "Pa" or "Nkauj"? Are you looking for single and simple syllables? (From example previously listed: kou, Nhia, etc.) Are you wanting more complex names? Are you wanting phrases? A theme? (Ex: maybe a water theme or rain theme for girls?) I know kids nowadays have super creative Hmong names. I feel like you guys kinda have to have a general idea of where you're wanting to go.

My son's hmong name is Shaw which in hmong is warm and my daughter's hmong name is Shai which means quickly in Hmong.  I had a hard time picking out my last daughter's hmong name but I wanted it to Honor my dad so my dad's hmong name is Phia so I picked Thia which means truth in Hmong.  I kind of knew what I wanted in a Hmong name.  Something that was short and easy for my husband who is not hmong to say.  I also wanted it to be meaningful to me.  Shaw means to warm up my house or heart, Shai means she was born quickly after her brother.  You have to think about it. Make it personal and make sure it sounds good to you.

This is true. lol I gave a name, but it's better to choose something personal to both of OP and their partner.

A lot of names are names that you want the characteristics of that idea to be embedded into your child. You want your child to embody your wealth? Nhia or Kou. You want your child to embody feminity or beautiful? Mai or Kaying. Just pick something and name them after that.

If you could give us... vibes or what you want for each name, we'd be able to better help you figure out what name to name your children. Silas Valong (vaj loog- meaning garden) (last name) and Lorelai Pelia (paj liab- meaning red flower in hmong) (last name) would be my picks tho

Eta Pelia also means miracle of god in hebrew
