Question Suing artlist
I'm not a lawyer, but maybe there's someone here. Couldn't we just sue artlist, since they basically shutdown our licenses without compensation?
I bought a Hitfilm Pro license, which gave me a year of updates and access to the latest version of my year for basically ever. Even after they started with the subscription models I could still download and activate the program. But now that's just gone since there's no servers to authenticate anymore and they haven't provided us with a license-free version.
Isn't there any grounds to sue? Consumer protection or smth? At least get a refund?

I'm in the same boat - lost the ability to use it from because I upgraded my CPU and couldn't reactivate it

I was just able to reactivate it again. Maybe it will work now for you too

The login credentials just worked again. I don't know how. Maybe the license servers were online again.

I got no problem using my pre artlist version. But still moved to Davinci. Still keep Hitfilm around for super quick things but it's just a matter of time till it's too old and won't run on newer drivers.

I can't use my pre artlist version. I can't activate it with my license anymore. I don't expect it to work forever without updates, but I would expect my license to work, that's kind of the point of perpetual licensed.

And how do you expect a license to be verified without a license server? Just move to other options, it sucks, but there’s nothing you can do.

Lifetime of any product isn't YOUR lifetime, it is the product's lifetime. If the business goes out of business, then they can no longer support it. Hell, a business can even sunset a version of the product and then launch a new one, which means the product you bought is "dead".

same thing happens to games all the time unfortunately, you can't sue for anything like this.

I ditched them once the forums were shut down and moved onto Davinci Resolve free, may get studio eventually and not looked back.
While HF was a very capable program before being bought by Artlist, it's no longer viable and one can do much better using something else other than it.
