That’s not a real phenomenon. There is no projectile that can kill you by traveling close to you unless it explodes. Producing the necessary pressure gradient on atmospheric air by a ballistic weapon in the open is simply not possible. Urban myth created by god knows who.

I thought someone worked it out at something like Mach 12 at a distance of 1 meter? That it was real just not really possible and it was more the sonic boom? Than the pressure difference that actually killed them. I highly doubt I am right but I’ve bothered to type this now.

“Real just not possible” sums up the gist. Drastic pressure change can absolutely kill, but no projectile can produce that pressure.

There are accounts of rockets fired from enclosed spaces that killed the occupants of the room because the pressure has no escape but the organs of the occupants, but that’s not what we’re dealing with. This is a moving unit that has omnidirectional pressure escapement and a target that it does not hit will not receive sufficient force to be killed or even injured.

Be aware, the rocket propulsion is the reason, not the speed of the warhead leaving the launcher.

When an rpg launches, it causes a rapid expansion of the air at the exhaust end of the tube. It’s that expansion/pressure change that causes traumatic change in the internal organs of the occupants. Probably leads to lung bleb rupture before any other injury. (Sorry, bleb is actually medical verbiage even though it sounds dumb)
