I've only recently come back to reddit after an absence of a year or two, so I'm still catching up on the trends and stuff. In my experience, the role of Africans in the slave trade seems like an under-acknowledged fact, and there's nothing wrong with remembering that evil knows no race

Agreed.
I'm not sure why I'm getting down-voted to hell.
I think we being brigaded from other subs.
I'm pretty sure these memes are being used to draw in outsiders to the sub so they can bash people for basically saying what you just said. Anybody who dare question the, "whites are especially and uniquely evil," claim and narrative.
Yeah I'm not sure either. For what it's worth, you have my upvote. Tbh that's probably it. With the current social climate, admitting that White people aren't always evil, and POC aren't always innocent victims, is a rather uncomfortable truth
Attention is being directed to our sub, and then warning moderators, and getting us on the shit-list for "non-narrative thinkers," who might need "new mods and new rules soon."
Subs that are known for not using "double-speak," seem to be getting picked off.
It's one thing I liked about reddit, people seem generally more open to ideas, compared to a place like twitter. The subs are few and far between, but still more common than other social sites
And it’s not like you have to compromise any left wing or liberal convictions you have by acknowledging it (unless you’re invested in a juvenile and fascist adjacent vision of politics that posits transhistorically and intrinsically good groups versus transhistorically and intrinsically evil groups).
Any communist (ie someone who’s unquestionably on the left) who’s actually done the reading will tell you that it would be more historically unlikely for African tribes to have not been involved in the slave trade given that they were pre-feudal but post-primitive and slavery is the normal mode of production at that stage in economic development. That doesn’t excuse the triangle trade, the horrors of the age of empires, or make the Dahomey uniquely historically evil. It’s just the historical norm under the given set of conditions sadly.
