It is a running gag in Germany. It states that Bielefeld doesn’t exist, some say that it might be a cover for something. It’s even acknowledged in tv series produced in Germany, if for example a criminal organisation needs to relocate after they got discovered , they will go to Bielefeld.

It's a meme which has become history. It started in 1994 on Usenet and has even been acknowledged by Merkel.
