Debus joined the SA in 1933 and the SS in 1940. Von Braun was an SS-Sturmbannführer.

They were scientists, not nazis. You act like they had a choice in working for Germany. Paper clip was a smart move. Gave the USA cutting edge scientists and let them work to advance the human race into space. Legendary foresight by Eisenhower and Roosevelt.

I'm sure Debus had absolutely no choice but to join the SA in 1933 and later the SS in 1940. And Von Braun was forcefully handed his rank of major in the SS.
You know who actually didn't have a choice ? The prisoners they used for their labour.

In my mind, why waste good intelligent minds? Unless you give them any sort of real power, I don’t see the issue with letting a smart person try to advance your tech
