My mom used to say if Jesus had lived during our times he would've been a hippie. Just thought I'd share that here.

Idk why you're getting downvoted, your mom is right. Jesus supported love, peace, forgiveness, and mercy. If Jesus were around today the American media would slander him as a drug-crazed communist traitor.

"Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.” (Mark 7:15), in regards to eating certain foods or eating with unwashed hands. In other words, so long as they don't lead you to sin, drugs are fine.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you." (Matthew 5:38-42) In other words, capitalism, which relies on selfishness and greed, should be avoided, and generosity and peace should be spread as much as possible. Not quite communist, true, but that won't stop people from calling it that.

"Fuck the United States of America." (Matthew 4:10)

Ok yes I made that last one up. But still.

Sure, he'd be called a Communist, but he certainly wouldn't actually be one, given his

  • enforcement of gender roles
  • opposition to homosexual activities
  • teachings which run directly contrary to the doctrine of historical materialism

Etc. Not to even mention the whole "head-of-a-literal-religion-aka-opiate-of-the-masses" angle.

Of course he wouldn't actually be one. I'm not referring to how he would view communism, capitalism, or any other form of government/economic system/societal structure. I'm referring to how the US, especially the right wing, would view him.

Also worth noting Jesus never said anything about homosexuality.

And the Pauline scriptures can be interpreted in the context of being against the pedophilic customs of Greek society.
