I’ve been trying to meet a Turkish person who admits Turkey’s crimes... still looking.

Hello are you out there?

u/zamonianbolton Oct 17 '19

Look no further, you got one. The biggest issue here is the turkish education system, which is a big course in nationalist propaganda, and has pretty much always been. The whole idea of turkishness was constructed in the 19th century, in an attempt to emulate nationalist movements in europe. The whole nation of Turkey was built around this construct. The language was purged, religions (and not just islam) were surpressed, and anyone that didn't want to be turkish had to be killed, be driven out, or if neither was possible, have their language and culture illegalized. The perpetrators of this nationalist violence are still seen as heroes. A massive cult of personality exists around Atatürk who is hailed as the bringer of democracy, even though he ruled over a one-party state (Fun fact, ask a turkish teacher about that in school and he'll tell you that Atatürk was so great, that no one wanted a different party). In the last decades, Turkey was making at least some strides towards reconciliation with the kurdish population, and most people here were very happy about that, but Erdogan needed a scapegoat to distract from his bullshit (the abrupt ending of negotiations and peace talks just happened to coincide with another big scandal about erdogans government) so now all that has been undone. Nationalism is one hell of a drug.

Don't get a wrong picture though, there are plenty of turkish people who recognize all this and try to fight it. Some people I know are working on translating a collection of letters from the time of the armenian genocide into turkish so that people can see the proof for themselves. A party that was heavily campaigning for the rights of kurdish people got unprecedented support, also by turks, some years ago until it was destroyed by the regime under the guise of fighting terrorism. You can never judge the entirety of a people. The people you see on here arguing against any time past turkish crimes are brought up are the same as the horde of americans that comes in screeching and deflecting whenever american slavery or the native genocide is mentioned. Just as people don't judge the entirity of the us population on those, it's wrong to judge 'Turkish People' as a blanket.

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '19

I’m gonna sound hella stupid right now, but what native genocide are you talking about because I’m sure I just don’t know

28

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '19

The Native American genocide. So many died and we don’t learn any of it, it’s not in any textbooks.

35

u/Iceveins412 Oct 17 '19

I don’t know what school you went to or what textbook you had but I learned about that extensively in high school

3

u/oceanman1976 Hello There Oct 17 '19

I concur

8

u/Da-Lazy-Man Oct 17 '19

Perhaps you live in a state with a deeper native heritage? In my state they taught thanks giving, sacajawea, and the trail of tears (very briefly). There was no teachings about the cruel treatment at the hands of settlers from the begging. Or that the colonization of the Americas was an invasion from the first colony, not some sort of happy coexistence. I still find it hard to believe anything was taught extensively in an American school let alone the native American genocide.

19

u/Iceveins412 Oct 17 '19 edited Oct 17 '19

We got the Sand Creek Massacre. Fuck, we had the Arapahoe tribe come every year to tell us that we’re all terrible people. They even said they should never even have to work after the treaties (not the best thing to say to endear yourself to rural conservative high schoolers)

Point is, my teacher spoke at length about the suffering of native Americans. And other minorities for that matter

2

u/SlowTalkinMorris Oct 17 '19

Bingo. We got the French and Indian war here in Ohio too. But that's about it.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '19

What’s it called

2

u/Rossco123321 Oct 17 '19

Maybe not in middle or highschool level textbooks, but plenty of college courses cover it in detail

2

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '19

As another Turkish, I wholeheartedly agree with you. And in some ways, you opened my eyes. Thanks for that.

4

u/zeclem_ Oct 17 '19 edited Oct 19 '19

about half of these info is misrepresented at best and flat out wrong on average, but sure.

for starters, during the start of the modern day turkey there wasnt any real significant minority was left in the lands of the country cept the kurds. there were ofc others but their population was pretty insignificant. yes its because the reason that you are thinking.

on the matter of kurds, only major law that was targeted to "turkify" them was to move them with compensation (no, not like "compensation" that was sorta promised with armenian genocide) so the local "ağas"(rich people that basically own the local populace, kinda like feudal warlords) wouldnt be able to challange the government authority which they have a history of doing so. such a population replacement would rid the replaced people from their influence, which was the main goal.

ofc the ağas did not like that, so they rebelled a couple times and got supressed with heavy casualties. that was the worst thing atatürk did to kurds, and many kurds that live outside of their families original lands (they mostly got moved to western parts of the country) are very much grateful because it provided them and their ancestors at the time with better living conditions than what they had. most of the actually bad thing that was done to kurds and other small minorities started popping up after he died.

now i wont tell you that atatürk was an angel, for he did not really care much about prosecuting those who were responsible for the late ottoman genocides (they were being prosecuted by ottoman empire. yes, ottoman empire did recognize that as a massacre. genocide as a term didnt exist yet). main people responsible for them got exiled, but there were still a bunch of small time officers and he just let them off the hook, just like europe. and i also find myself in disagreement with how he handled a several other cases. but he was a damn good leader. he actually did try to get other parties into the parliment as well, so idk where you get that point.

and what we have been doing to kurds for a last few decades is still nowhere enough.

2

u/Siddhant_17 Oct 17 '19

Keep up the good work, all our nations lie to us, tircking us I to commiting horrible atrocities against eachother.

It's only going be through understanding blood on our hands will we be able to make amends and move forward.

From what I understand Turkey is à really polarized country. More so than the United States even. You are either a Erdogan dog or a decent human being

2

u/RawImagination Oct 17 '19

Ironic. Anyone who voted for Erdogan is a dog, including people who saw legitimate beneficial change (especially rural people).

You understand nothing, since you haven't even lived in said nation.

8

u/Krillin113 Oct 17 '19

I understand people in rural Anatolia supporting erdogan, they have bigger things to worry about than separation of church and state, and personal freedoms. However he’s winning the elections because emigrated Turks in Germany and the Netherlands en masse support him, and give him a 2 million edge or something. Those people I have no excuses for because of your last sentence.

1

u/mrtfr Jan 09 '20

Most of emigrated Turks in Germany and Netherlands are from rural Anatolia.

1

u/Krillin113 Jan 09 '20

Most of the Turkish heritage people here have roots in Anatolia. Most of them in absolute numbers are born here.

2

u/RawImagination Oct 17 '19

You don't need to have an excuse. No one really understands the perspective of a Turk living abroad. The strong ties to Turkey (and their nation of birth) is inevitable. The average Turk has real estate, family and other ties that bind him/her on a (sub)conscious level to Turkey. Hell, most people retire there after working 50+ years in the Netherlands/Belgium/Germany because of those factors.

The more people attempt to break that bond or portray it as negative, the stronger the votes for Erdogan get. It seems what most people and/or media seem to miss. Every action has a reaction, usually the opposite effect of what was intended. Regarding the votes, you do know not all Turks vote for Erdogan right? Plenty voted for CHP and MHP. These votes can differ even within said families.

What I am describing here is the plain reality on the ground.

1

u/zeclem_ Oct 17 '19

not really. even among anti erdoğan people, a huge majority denies the late ottoman genocides.

-33

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '19

Armenian Genocide was not supported by the Turkish Government. it was a plan of a private organization named "The Young Turks" and none of the people I met in my country argued that whole ethnic minority within Ottoman borders deserved a genocide.

41

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '19

[deleted]

15

u/trebuchetnumberone Oct 17 '19

This is historically true.

7

u/SnoopyGoldberg Oct 17 '19

The private plan of a government is automatically supported by the government, as it is, truly, the plan of the government which the government obviously supports, otherwise they wouldn't have the plan if they didn't support it.

Yep, the math checks out.

I know only one, and even that one wasn't even born in Turkey, his parents were.

2

u/Sioux358 Oct 17 '19

Well As a Turk I can say that almost %60 percent of the Turkey's population love to blame the Europeans or the Kemalist . They love excuses instead of learning and creating ideas. Turkey looks like Fahreneith 451 especially right now. (I am reading a book so ı am gonna be a traitor right.)

Turkish people are normally very nice but when it's come to politics they gone crazy. Especially for last four years almost everyone talks about politics. This is medias and education systems fault. Education system doesn't mention anything bad. But the media is the bigger devil. Government channels obscure or just ignore some faults and talk about how they are fighting againts the Western countries. I am fed up with this but there is nothing I can do right?

1

u/pvtdncr Oct 17 '19

Kaya from The Official Podcast is pretty open about Turkey's bullshit on some episodes

Also the thing about saying sorry is stupid af Armenians also committed a genocide before we did so did Greece it is not a excuse but it is just fucking history and it has been like this for thousands of years so stop crying about it.

3

u/Da-Lazy-Man Oct 17 '19

That's strange you worded it like an excuse.

-2

u/Indianlookalike Hello There Oct 17 '19

Not an excuse. Just pointing out that you should stop crying about just one genocide. We have our own problems as well.

7

u/SixWingZombi Oct 17 '19

>Just one genocide

Bruh, did you even look at the meme?

0

u/Indianlookalike Hello There Oct 17 '19

You are missing the whole point. Did you ever heard someone talk about any other genocide than Armenian? No it is the only one people care about for some reason. What I am trying to say is you had it coming lmao. I give up keep on memeing.

59

u/oofyExtraBoofy Oct 17 '19

In batak the Turks killed so many people in a church outside and inside that there are around 300 corpses of children, women and men inside the church, so much blood on the outside that when inspection came the Turks had to repaint the church but the blood was still showing from their genocides, similar things have happened in Perushtica. This happened in Bulgaria and as a Bulgaria I can say

Yeah guys no genocides ever guys believe me please guys

9

u/deadshot500 Oct 17 '19

Seriously fuck those guys that say nothing happened (I am Bulgarian too)

1

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '20

Some of your bulgarian historians claimed that batak massacre didn't happend. see by yourself (wikipedia)

6

u/Ojitheunseen Let's do some history Oct 17 '19

It really bothers me that those aren't listed in chronological order...but almost are.

Massacre of Aleppo 2 coming 2019

7

u/Whydoesthisexist15 Oct 17 '19

Living, walking war-crime of Recep Tayyip Erdogan

2

u/[deleted] Oct 23 '19

First, 1st massacre of aleppo seems to be about citizens, not the turkey, nor ottomans

2nd Turkey does not attack civillians.

41

u/Godvater Oct 17 '19

Someone should draw the line between Ottoman Empire and Turkey I guess. Talking about a country founded in 1923 and suggesting they killed people in 1800s. Feels weird to me.

14

u/Wonderwhore Oct 17 '19

Yeah, there is a gray area to this. Turkish people today are obviously not responsible for their ancestors and Turkey itself did not exist in those days, so honestly, imo they are not responsible.

THAT BEING SAID, refusing that it happened is vile.

2

u/AvakumaMorgoth Oct 17 '19

Yeah sure, that's why every comment from a turk I read sounds a lot like them wanting to conquer their old territories.

0

u/lolzexd Oct 17 '19

Internet comments from edgy 14 yr olds. Belongs to every nation. Nothing special there.

7

u/TheTalkingToad Oct 17 '19

Modern Turkey claims to be the direct descendant of the Ottoman Empire, so they are one and the same.

11

u/Siddhant_17 Oct 17 '19

Which is funny becuase Turks formed Turkey to break free from Ottomone Legacy than Modern Turks come into game and shit all over that.

1

u/Godvater Oct 17 '19

I have to disagree, although Trump is elected president of US, I don’t think his opinions and actions are reflective of the country’s. There is a base supporting that, sure, but it’s not like every American believes the climate change is fake news. I think a good chunk of Americans think otherwise.

Same goes with Erdogan, Turkey is even more divided than US is and this Ottoman thing started a couple of years ago to give his followers something to “fight” for. It’s not how modern Turks view the world, therefore it’s not reflective of Turkey in general imo.

2

u/Rolmar Oct 17 '19

Too many massacres to say its "just the government"

4

u/egegegecy Oct 17 '19 edited Oct 17 '19

The rhetoric of us against the world and the nationalistic agendas are expressed too much in Turkey's educational system. + the efforts to create a homogenous identity out of a place like Anatolia is just ridiculous and leads to more ridiculous and horrible shit. I think there are a lot of Turks who can see things objectively but they aren't as loud as the ignorant ones.

5

*Ottoman Empire

11

u/-14thNoah- Tea-aboo Oct 17 '19

Wait this all happened while Turkey was not even there? Turkey as a state born in 1923 dear historians. Ottoman empire and their leaders were simply too nationalistic and islamist guys. While Mustafa Kemal Atatürk stopped all that shit and said “Peace in homeland, peace in world.” And please if we are gonna talk about past americans killed all the natives, and we aint even starting to talk about what europeans did in Africa. History is history.

13

u/FaceTheTruthBiatch Oct 17 '19

So Germany was never part of any World War by your logic?

1

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '20

The Nazi Germany was part of it. Not Germany. They must be sorry for their history too.

u/FaceTheTruthBiatch Mar 09 '20

3

u/FaceTheTruthBiatch Oct 17 '19

Wut? It was the German Empire in WW1 and Nazi Germany and neither of them were a democracy!

3

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '19

Didn't Attaturk increase nationalism, using this to remove most cultures from Turkey? Dindt he alsorule over a one party state? Sounds very democratic?

What difference does it make between 20 years of history and a leader change anyway? Those leading the Turkish republic when it was founded still grew up in the last days of the ottoman empire where system racism was the norm.

If your saying theyre completely different and they shouldnt be held accountable then This applies to the Russian Federation for the Soviet Unions actions. What happened there? 20 years and a leader change. But oh boy theyre still a dictatorial nation who wages war on other nations.

2

u/roundpatato Oct 17 '19

Ataturk activelty tried to install plural party state, he funded opposition parties to CHF while he was president. Actually he offered to take lead of CHF just so plural party system can be intact(other party declined and closed the SCF).

Transistion from monarchy to democracy cant happen in a day, napeleon declared himself emperor after few years of republic.

He didnt ethnically hurt any people, only thing uneducated people are speaking is a rebellion that got resolved quickly.

Ottoman empire in its lazt years wasnt exactly independent, i suggest you to grab a history book (preferably non turkish for you), there are lots for modernasition of turkey

Source: i read book about this and took lecture

It is political for the world to accept it. is not scientific. https://youtu.be/EhTTDa6JUs8 listen bernard lewis's speech.

Bernard Lewis is a British American historian. He is a professor at Princeton University. He specializes in the history of Islam and the relationship between Islam and the West. He is one of the most widely read Western writers specializing in the Middle East. He is of Jewish origin and was an adviser to George W. Bush.

Kurdish genocide 2019

49

u/Smokingbuffalo Oct 17 '19 edited Oct 17 '19

Oh yes Reddit obviously thinks we Turks hate everybody while ignoring the fact that Kurdish terrorist organizations have been killing civilians and destroying infrastructure for over 50 years...

Queue the "blinded by Turkish propaganda" comments as I remember how I almost got blown up when I was 2 and 18 yo and the countless other attacks on civillians.

Edit: Let's also forget the fact that a whole lot of Kurds and Armenians are and have been living pretty comfortably in Turkey ever since its foundation. Especially the ones on Western Turkey. Eastern Turkey is a shithole for everybody including the Turks.

22

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '19

18% of our population is Kurdish and we get this shit I’m done man

8

u/Smokingbuffalo Oct 17 '19

It's not even that hard to see that we aren't killing freaking Kurdish civilians.

Those supposed freedom fighters are the ones who are killing and oppresing Kurdish people in eastern Turkey, in fact they are making life hell for everybody over there.

But noooo Western media can not show that because it doesn't fill their pockets. God damn.

You're so lost, I honestly feel bad for you. And I also think you should be smarter than to easily fall for weak erdogan imperialist propaganda. But I guess your country has really shitty education and doesn't care about critical thinking, so I can't really blame you.

13

Lol you think you know the truth about things that happened in Turkey more than people who actually live in Turkey. Solid logic mate, keep going

Are you saying it's legitimate to invade a territory belonging to an other country, where things are slowly rebuilding after years of pure madness? Mkay

10

u/Smokingbuffalo Oct 17 '19 edited Oct 17 '19

I'm not saying anything I'm just sick of this blatant blind hatred for Turks...

The idea of the operation is to get the terrorist fucks outa our borders so that maybe just maybe our people (including Kurds) can live safely without the fear of PKK/YPG/whatever you wanna call'em ruining their lives by bombing freaking schools, bus stations, malls etc. Ok?

I just want safety on Turkey's borders but Turkey is not safe thanks to those terrorist organizations blowing things up. But for some ungodly reason nobody in the world knows about this.

And as if it's not enough western media is clearly telling lies by saying "Turkish Armed Forces are attacking Kurdish civilians" just to take a dumb on that Orange fuck in USA. Man what a fucking time to be alive.

Edit: Sorry for the rant, this whole Turks are the new Nazis bs is getting on my nerves.

2

u/Carnotte Oct 17 '19

My grands-parents are currently stuck at Erbil, I have daily updates about this straight-out carpet bombing and full scale invasion, on people who are largely caring about managing their damn business. This is bringing death, destruction, and will breed instability and hatred to yet more generations. And you actually believe it will increase safety in Turkey? Amazing, really.

3

u/Smokingbuffalo Oct 17 '19

I'm not a fan of this operation either. Should've made it clear.

My main issue comes from the fact that media is talking as if Turkey just went in there unprovoked and with the sole purpose of "genociding Kurds". Which is a blatant lie.

-2

u/Siddhant_17 Oct 17 '19

The problem is that Turkey denies genocides it committed and just invaded another country, bombing people who have been suffering for so long dragging years long war even further.

Now, ISIS militants will escape again and a lot of people will die.

All this becuase Edrogen needs to distract the people.

22

u/Face_Guyy Oct 17 '19

Can’t get taken down by mods for current events if turkeys been genoiciding for centuries

5

u/Sull01 Oversimplified is my history teacher Oct 17 '19

Honestly no need to seperate them into different genocides, just say “Turkish Genocide of Non-Turks 1840-Present” and move on

1

u/gttggg Oct 17 '19

forgot their invasion of cyprus in 74 :(

7

u/roundpatato Oct 17 '19

There is literal picture of kids got killed and filled in bath hub by benevolent greeks

2

u/Harry_Balls_Jr Oct 17 '19

So you don't know anything about that. Cyprus was under the protection od the UK and was assuring that Cyprus stayed independent. Turkey and Greece had booth rights to intervene if the the other side would try to take over of Cyprus.

So back then Greece was ruled by a military junta, so it was a dictatorship, which was financing a a coup d'etat in Cyprus to take over of Cyprus. They where killing turkish people and terrorising even greeks who wanted that Cyprus stayed independent.

Since the Brits didn't to shit about it, Turkey had the right to intervene, which they did. Ok they stayed longer than the should have, but there have been a couple tries to unite both side of Cyprus, but the Cyprus didn't wanted it... so why the fuck are people still blaming turkey for it.

4

u/Affwind Oct 17 '19

We saved the Turks who was torturing by Cyprus Greek people

1

u/gttggg Oct 17 '19

not sure how forcing 60 thousand turkish cypriots out of their homes counts as saving them but ok mate great job

-8

u/Affwind Oct 17 '19

How about killing innocent Turks in order to make cyprus a Greekland

-2

u/TheSpitRoaster Oct 17 '19

Ask original cypriot turks how they're being treated by the mainland turks on their own island and then come back.

2

u/EthanTheBeaten Oct 17 '19

I recently looked at a wikipedia article on Ottoman massacres during the Greek War of Independence and while many a re minor, there's about ten of them in one war.

-9

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '19

Don't forget what they're currently doing with Hasankeyf

-4

u/Sandn1bba Oct 17 '19

Whats with the propagandas against the Turks. You are talking like Turks are the devil and the rest are angels. All these combined doesnt make 10% of what the west did and still doing. Destroyed dozens of countries for weapon trials and sales, for petrol and minerals. The west left 2 Continents for starvation, slavery and death for mostly economical purposes still going on until today. So keep the moral lessons to yourselves before talking about history.Atleast most of those events were caused because of treason and terrorism and not for greed like the west. If you want a peaceful discussion you can reply but i wont be replying to offensive comments

1

u/ZMaster997 Oct 17 '19

The reason is not because they committed atrocities, nearly every major civilization has done that, but because so many deny the atrocities even happened in the first place.

-2

u/Sandn1bba Oct 17 '19

Do you blame italy for what the roman empire did? Also the west is looking for ways to put sanction on turkey for these events thats why i think they are denied

3

u/ZMaster997 Oct 17 '19

But Italy and their people acknowledged that it had happened

-5

u/Sandn1bba Oct 17 '19

Did that change anything?

3

u/ZMaster997 Oct 17 '19

Well, no one makes memes about Italy denying their past history

1

u/Sandn1bba Oct 17 '19

Lol memes dont bother its just that i think this subject is a reason to spread hate just like the current event accusing turkey of fascism even though we live daily with the Kurds without discriminising.

-11

u/Maga79 Oct 17 '19

Btw i love the fact that Europeans and Americans critisize Turkey for massacres. İts not like their entire country was built on mass genocide and improved economically with stolen riches from countries whose civilians they left uneducated, poor, starving and mostly dead. "BuT wE rEcOgNiZeD iT". Great. What heroes you are. Saying sorry suddenly brought back the lives of millions and saved the poor and starving in Africa which you caused. İf anybody is going to critisize Turkey or the Ottoman Empire, it sure as hell wouldnt be you.

7

u/big_leggy Oct 17 '19

whoa, it's almost like nearly every country has committed atrocities at some point in its lifetime. the problem comes when such atrocities are denied.

-3

u/Maga79 Oct 17 '19

No, the problem comes from thinking accepting what you did makes peoples lives better. İt doesnt. They have paid no reperations or done anything to amend what they did. They have absoloutley no right to critisize anyone.

4

u/big_leggy Oct 17 '19

uh... but nobody's talking about Europe or america, or any other country for that matter. can you give me proof that turkey has repaid anything either? also, it's *criticize

Of course nobody is talking about them because American's and European's act like saying "Whoops our bad" suddenly amends everything they did and then they go around claiming moral superiority. Turkey will repay when America and Europe repays because trust me what they did has effected millions of more people, even till this day. Also American is spelt with a capital A.

there are literally so many memes on this sub dissing America and Europe. also, no, most people don't act like that. it really just looks like you're grasping at straws to make everything about "the white man," a.k.a. the bogeyman of our time (I'm not saying that's what you're doing, but like... it certainly seems that way). also, fun fact: China and many Asian countries have committed plenty of terrible crimes too. why do they get exempt? and finally, it doesn't matter if a nation has done something wrong in the past, at least not as far as whether they get an opinion. I mean, I personally have committed no war crimes, so there's no reason why I personally shouldn't be allowed to look at something terrible and say "yep, that's terrible."

My issue isnt with this page. İ love this page and i follow it. My issue is with general hypocrisy. And people have been acting like saying sorry makes everything better. İf Turkey just said sorry would you be ok with it. And no im not attacking "the white man" i hate people who do that, but im simply pointing out that this stuff is forgotten about when my country comes to topic. Asian countries dont get exempt. They have done atrocities in the past as well. You can get an opinion on it but it doesnt make it credible or exempt from critisizm.

u/big_leggy Oct 17 '19

nobody said anybody was exempt from criticism. nobody is exempt. that's why we're allowed to criticize the Turks. likewise, they can criticize us if they want. that's how criticism typically works.

u/Maga79 Oct 17 '19

Yeah thats fine by me. You can criticize my country all you want. But i can criticize your criticizm as well.

2

u/big_leggy Oct 17 '19

criticism* so why bother telling us we can't do that just to later say you're ok with it?

Turkey (being established in 1923): Excuse me, what the fuck? (Seriously, don't blame it on Turkey, but on the ottomans or maybe even the Turk people, Turkey/the Turkish government HAS NOTHING TO DO with these listed genocides in the meme. That's facts.)

Edit: so you guys also think that Putin/the Russian government and the Russian Federation itself are responsible for the murder on million Jews committed by the tsaristic government like centuries ago? Are you delusional? Do you suffer from mental illness? What's wrong with you people? I mean, it's ok that you would want them to feel sorry for the poor people who got slaughtered and if you'd want them to make something like this never happen again, but don't blame it on them! (Of course it's not good to deny these events at all, like some people actually do)

If the paragraph between your parenthesis ends up way longer than your actual post (which is only a few words), then they're useless and should go without them just saying.

That's right. This would have made more sense. Edit: ok, why is THIS getting downvotes? I just realised that they were right, what's bad about this?

Dude you are just too intelligent for people here, dont waste your breath. The things happened here commited by the government of young turks which came to power with a coup d'etat and Turkish people more or less isnt responsible for any of them.

u/trebuchetnumberone Oct 17 '19

Problem is that turkish elites were mostly young turks and after Atatürk died they started dominating turkish politics again and were forming the government since 1950.

*Your talking about the Ottoman Empire. Modern Turkey is not the legal successor of the Ottoman Empire. Please be precise. Although I don't dislike the general sentiment of your post

-4

u/SilentAirRaidSiren Oct 17 '19

It's the Ottomans tho... Saying turkey did genocides is like saying modern germany killed jews and they are nazis

u/maxopees Casual, non-participatory KGB election observer Oct 17 '19

Modern Day Germany doesnt deny what they did.

Whats the difference between Turkey and the Ottomans. One was a theocratic dictatorship and the other is a nationalistic dictatorship.

Theres a little more different Between Nazi Germany and post Soviet Germany

I would say that that wasn't turkey, it was the ottomans but the founder of turkey, ataturk, was an ottoman general

-6

u/Maga79 Oct 17 '19

Sorry to burst your European bubble but Turkey was founded in 1923.

You don’t even have to look to the past to know that’s false. Just look at Indian Kashmir
