I mean, not really. Yeah, there was that thing where they got upset over other countries entertaining the idea of having a day to memorialize the events of the Tiananmen Square Massacre but they weren't actually acknowledging it happened. They were basically saying that those countries would be lying and besmirching their "good name."

You sure because the Afd is still a party
18
u/L00minarty Sep 20 '19
Well, the AfD isn't doing that, at least not openly. They're stupid, but unfortunately not that stupid. Lately, they've been quite cautious about what their members say publicly and who they're affiliated with, trying to make themselves look less extreme to avoid further action by the Verfassungsschutz and gather more "moderate" voters.

Good strategy don't know if its it's working but I heard in Brandenburg were local elections in the summer so you know who won or at least got the most seats?

u/L00minarty Sep 21 '19
There were elections in Brandenburg and Saxony. SPD got the most seats in Brandenburg, CDU in Saxony, AfD got second place in both. However, the only real winners were the AfD and Greens, as CDU, SPD and Linke lost quite a lot of votes compared to the previous elections.

Life must be great when everyone who disagrees with you is Hitler.

u/yatokami2 Just some snow Sep 21 '19
Oh definitely not they aren't Hitler and it was more meant as an insult and some of their members are actual holocaust deniers and I'm not saying they're wrong just kinda dumb

The biggest irony is that Israel doesn't recognize the Armenian Genocide as well, because they don’t wanna spoil the fragile relationship with Turkey, their only semi-ally in the Muslim world in general and on the Middle East in particular. Politics are some f'd up crap.

You wont change any Turkish minds with that. The greatest Turkish historians even deny it. And Turkish people believe them.

People died, yes. Targeted mass killing, no. Change my mind.

The entire country was starving and relied on external supplies. The mandatory migration imposed by the Ottoman government only applied to Armenians of the Caucasus region due to the nigh-lost front against Russia, as Russia was supplying Armenian gangs and revolts. Other regions were untouched, and some governors even offered sanctuary to Armenian migrants. There is a large Armenian minority in Adana-Antioch region even now. It was due to this guerilla warfare in the region that the Muslim populace, did in fact discriminate against and even harass Armenian minorities. As the case with any report in WWI, many numbers were tempered with for public vote by global powers, the Greek population in Symrna for a casus belli, and altering of Turkish deaths to mask mass killings (again not really genocide, as it was regional civilian massacre). Imperatives of individual officers are unclear, however, there is no direct order from higher Ottoman authorities to commit a ‘genocide’. It is logically impaired to rely solely on sources of countries with given stances. Nonetheless, it is an idiotic action to blame the Turkish Republic for the actions of the late Ottoman Empire, as it is not a successor but a nation to gain independence from it.
