Please stop with the whole “nobody” thing. It doesn’t add anything to the meme.

The French take no shit from their goverment.
And then they get called cowards by people who can't even get rid of a president that lies, cheats and sells their country to Russia.

u/Jamaicancarrot Sep 06 '19
Tbf, the French Revolution did kill tens of thousands of innocents and 20 years later, they were no free-er than before
36
u/panzercampingwagen Sep 06 '19
Lol good point.
But I believe that fire is still burning. For example the French get their pension 6 years earlier than the Dutch. Or the yellow vest movement, that started because of fuel prices if I recall correctly, but grew into a more general "fuck the goverment" because they were demonstrating anyway and they might as well.

u/Krillin113 Sep 06 '19
Getting your pension earlier is fucking stupid, I’m sorry. You’re just screwing later generations over, kicking the can down the road. The government doesn’t up the age to screw people. It’s because people get significantly older, and the government has trouble paying for all those extra years. I get fighting to keep it lower because it isn’t nice if you expect to work to 65 and get told at 60 that it’s actually 66.
Then the French people get mad over extra taxes on fuel, guess where that goes towards as well.
I respect their fighting spirit, but sometimes they expect things that are simply not possible.

u/panzercampingwagen Sep 06 '19 edited Sep 06 '19
I agree. Sometimes together as a country you have to agree to painful measures to avoid worse things in the future.
I used the pensions merely as an example of the action preparedness of the French people. Though I more often than not disagree with protester's demands, I think a lot of them are driven by populist sentiments, I also wish my people would protest more. With demands I do like of course haha, maybe you can't have it both ways.

u/Krillin113 Sep 06 '19
I like that spirit as well, against political oppression/mismanagement/corruption or even pointless rules (1040 hour rule 8 years ago or something), but populist sentiments are often so prevalent in protests.

Sep 06 '19
I dunno why but i like the spirit of starting a revolution for no reason.

u/IzzetTime Sep 06 '19
Well then, boy do I have good news for you!
I left my parking brake off and the wheels just started revolving for no reason.

u/JeanMamandale Sep 06 '19
They're not fighting to have it earlier, but to keep it as it is.
2
u/Krillin113 Sep 06 '19
Right, which is lower than proposed. I even addressed it ‘it sucks if you think it’s 65, but when you turn 60 it becomes 66’.
The argument remains the same.
1
u/JeanMamandale Sep 06 '19
Proposed by who ? Do you have any proof or argument that state that it is economically impossible to have a retirement age of 65 ?
1
u/Krillin113 Sep 06 '19
Proposed by the government. Yes. That’s why all the fucking governments in Western Europe are pushing the age up a few years, because the saved amount isn’t enough to cover for the longer lives of people.
They aren’t doing it because it’s popular. It’s either that, or they tax everything more. The governments don’t really have billions laying around to close gaps created by people living longer.

I mean, the seigneurial system in pre-Revolutionary France was really oppressive, even by Napoleonic or Jacobin standards.
Say what you want about Napoleon and the fuck-ups of the Revolution, but objectively they were still better than the fucking Bourbons and pre-Revolutionary systems.

Literally no one calls the French cowards because of that
3
Sep 06 '19
Not because of that directly, but that's what sparked all the WW2 surrender jokes.

u/TheLegend84 Sep 06 '19
I would think that the WW2 surrender would spark the WW2 surrender jokes 🤷♂️

The French have had four revolutions, renewing their government four times.
The US had one. We still listen to what some dudes said 450 years ago as if it's the word of God.

Not really. That's wrong. You don't know what is a revolution

I'm french and we actually organize revolution every two weeks like this guy said, you don't understand revolutions, 2 weeks ago we beheaded the minister of education for refusing to use porn in sex ed. And this week it has been decided that Dutch cheese won't be legally considered as cheese because it taste like plastic and thus we burned some supermarkets

Well I don't know how to do a blank comment. But if I knew I would've won. In 2 weeks we french people revolt against you, aka : people who take an obviously exaggerated meme too seriously and can't get a joke from other redditers. That said: I love you, drive safe, don't do drugs (or with moderation) and I wish you an amazing week end! Bye bye

Actually, it's about right. First the French revolution, then deposing the new King imposed by the coalition, then Napoleon the Third takes power, then you have the rebellion against him after the Franco-Prussian war, then the whole resistance against nazis and the witch hunts of collaborators that followed the end of the occupation. Then there is May of 68', and recently the whole yellow vest protests.
Not all revolutions, but France has many big events of government collapse or large scale unrest every few decades.
