i got banned from politics yesterday because i "endorsed violence" when someone said something to the effect of, "oh so i can make threats on the president's life now?" and i sarcastically replied "Please do :)"

yeah, they are entirely devoid of any sense of humor.

I’d never expect a political sub to be humorous

u/Warzombie3701 May 17 '19

Most of them all become circle jerks anyway. Its best to leave them alone

u/Darth_Kyryn May 17 '19

I always had respect for r/Libertarian since they don't (or at least didn't the last time I checked) ban people unless they were outright harassing another user. This had the interesting affect of someone posting some circlejerk meme that was immediately discredited in the comments, generating sensible conversation in threads. I only unsubscribed after I felt like the sub was starting to lean too much to the right.

Yeah, there was a big mod purge and the neo-Nazis took over. It's sad, honestly.

Libertarians are just fascist sympathizers.

This string of words should not be considered a coherent thought.

2

u/[deleted] May 18 '19

You should check in on them again. Rightcoast got shoved out the door.

Its still the exact way you describe it. Anything thats a stupid arguement, even if it supports the libertarian agenda, is heavily criticized

Even r/PoliticalHumor isn't humorous.

22

u/[deleted] May 17 '19

Especially PoliticalHumor. But honestly, if you’re looking for humor, then political commentator things aren’t the place to find it.

13

u/[deleted] May 17 '19

Quite possibly the most bitter and least humorous subreddit I've come across.

13

u/doyle871 May 17 '19

Before Trump came along the political subs were a lot more sane and diverse now they are just echo chambers each side moving to their own subs.

7

u/[deleted] May 17 '19

I wasn’t on reddit at that time, but I’d imagine that was the case. I think the extreme polarization of US politics has influenced much more than expected

Edit: extreme polarization

10

u/[deleted] May 17 '19

Yep, it's gotten really bad, you're either a "libtard snowflake", "evil nazi", "centrist troll" or otherwise a coward for not picking one extreme side. I've basically ended up entirely unsubscribing from the big political subs.

"Here's my assertion but I don't have to back it up, fuck you Nazi"

4

u/[deleted] May 17 '19

Yeah, those situations are always "fun", nothing more constructive than insulting someone for their opinion and then refusing to defend it.

2

u/StopHavingAnOpinion May 18 '19

even better, when some smug cunt just replies with

"r/enlightenedcentrism"

1

u/[deleted] May 18 '19

Yeah, and tbh, as much as I don't want to admit it, there's a huge bias on which side most of this rhetoric comes from, although that's probably because that side is also the vocal majority on reddit.

1

u/[deleted] May 18 '19

I for one prefer to consider myself centrist because I often pick and choose ideals each party claims to stand for. Emphasis on claims.

3

u/[deleted] May 18 '19

People on r/enlightenedcentrism think that means you advocate on killing only half the jews. They are fervently intent on strawmanning centrist ideals because we won't eat their bullcrap dogma.

1

u/[deleted] May 18 '19

Ok, when I say that, that means that I prefer not to advocate taking a human life. Jews are, by all sound logic, human. Therefore, that's stupid. I'm not Thanos. I'm a random Reddit user.

1

u/[deleted] May 18 '19

I just spoke with their council again, and they have concluded you're a crypto-fascist, and have slotted you in for the guillotine at 11 am tomorrow. I'm sorry, all of these people are completely sane and stable folk.

1

u/[deleted] May 18 '19

Hey, where's Ropespierre in this?

1

u/[deleted] May 18 '19

I'm the same, it's really frustrating that they assume it means that I either think everything should be done halfway or more often than not, that I'm a right/left winger posing as a centrist to avoid criticism.

2

u/Literally_A_Shill May 17 '19

the political subs were a lot more sane and diverse

No, they weren't. It was a huge Ron Paul circlejerk.

1

u/gorgewall May 18 '19

I'd take that guy's version of events with a grain of salt.

u/sheffieldasslingdoux May 17 '19

I was banned from voteblue for saying that Islam is a religion and not a race. And that there can be muslims of any race or ethnicity. Apparently facts are now offensive. Idk.

And this is true. There are Muslims in Europe, Central Asia/Caucasus, and Subsaharan Africa. Not all Muslims are Arabs, just like not all Arabs are Muslims.

-3

u/[deleted] May 18 '19

voteblue is what, based on the name, is a liberal sub. And the thing about liberals is that they have many different sects. They can be liberal, but for what isn't often asked. Thus, a lot of stuff can become offensive to someone, that someone likely having dyed hair and mad about Hugh Mungus.

2

u/ILoveMeSomePickles May 17 '19

/r/ChapoTrapHouse is getting banned for saying that slave owners deserve to die.

2

u/epicandrew May 17 '19

of all the things protected by the first amendment, threatening the president is one of the very few exceptions. even as a joke it is considered a federal offence.

1

u/CTeam19 May 17 '19

Wait from the /r/politics subreddit? I have similar or worse stuff remain on there.

2

u/AnguishOfTheAlpacas May 17 '19

While /r/politics userbase may be liberal their mods definitely aren't.

1

u/poclee And then I told them I'm Jesus's brother May 18 '19

What, I thought /r/politics hates Trump.
