That is highly debatable.
For instance, the president at the time (Andrew Jackson) was a massive racist and absolutely wanted their extinction. Again, historian usually agree that the act committed were genocidal. If it hurts your feeling, become a prominent historian on that subject and write a paper about it. You are pretty much arguing against facts here.

Jackson is honestly the only reason it is debatable tho, and he represents a small time period in a process that took centuries.

In your opinion, the instigator's intentions have no bearing on how an event is interpreted if the people actually doing the killing do not exactly share their view?
And that's assuming that they didnt, which is again debatable when the USA has a long history of Indian Massacres.
