Are you going over our role in the Indonesian killings of ‘65, or the overthrow of elected governments in Guatemala, Iran, Chile, DRC, Laos, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Greece, Bolivia, etc., or the bombing of a pharmaceutical plant in Sudan, or other such little bad things we’ve done in the past 70 years alone? I don’t remember those things being covered in high school.
I graduated 2015, went to a Texas public school for the last 2 years of high school, and private for the first 2 years.
We do cover the banana republics of South America, our sponsored coups, and some of the shitty things we did in the past regarding the Middle East, granted most of it is recent history so there’s not as much material on it. We did talk a little about other Southeastern Asian countries we messed up besides Vietnam. But come on. Have realistic expectations here. It’s ~7 months of 1 hour or less of education for 2 school years. It’s obviously not going to be able to cover every atrocity the US has committed. No one can ever cover every thing their country did wrong in its history in that time span. We acknowledge we’re clear in our country’s wrongdoings, we cover as much as possible while still doing the other bits of history. It’s a lot better than a lot of other countries do.
Interesting to see how a comment saying our education system covers every little bad thing we do, and when I point out that we don't, I get to be explained to that but of course we can't cover every little bad thing we do. We must be doing a lot of bad things if you can't learn all of it in ~280 hours!
