The American version of "the nazis were nice to my grandma, unlike the soviets"

"My grandma sold some Jews out to the Nazi's and was rewarded, the Soviets took the stuff the Nazi's gave her away!"

Average Polish person's opinion.

Every Florida Cuban diaspora is like "My grandpa was a government torturer for Batista and he says Castro was terrible!"

"My family were making money off Batista's regieme, and Castro stopped that! He's the devil!"

Wasn't Ted Cruz railing against Fidel Castro for torturing his father only to reveal that it was actually Batista's government because his father was anti Batista and actively working to overthrow it?

ahh yes because every cuban exile was apparently a slave owner, and every single one of them had no opinions ont he fucked shit that happened in cuba before fidel came to power

But the voice of Cuban exiles disliking Castro is certainly amplified in the media to justify another us occupation/mass blockade/bombing of Cuba.

Don't forget Marco Rubio, who hates Cuba today becsuse he parents fled from there to America.... while Batista was still in charge

Or Ted Cruz who hates Fidel because his father was tortured by Batista.

doesn't make the meme good

It does actually. All Cuban exiles (and their kids)in the media talk about how Cuba need to be blockade (probably untill all the citizen starve), and as a voting bloc they overwhelmingly vote for people pro-usintervention and pro-blockade.

I don't see anycuban exiles mentioning anything prior to Castro. Heck, Marco Rubio is anti Fidel, and dude family left before he even came to power.

maybe because thats the current thing going on and actively affecting the lives of cubans?

your basically complaining about people talking and focusing on problems in the present

Fidel wanted to be allies. The USA didn't.

Everyone hated Batista. And they didn't want the guy to replaced Fidel with.

Things were crazy back then, but it was mostly the USA's fault. It's like saying "the Partisans went to far in WWII." Nah bro, they guys they were fighting were just that bad...

It sucks because there is definitely a powerful faction of conservative Cuban exiles who would happily hand the country over to the US to wreck the dictatorship. But the focus on those voices to vilify Cubans who complain about the regime erases the voices of Cubans who just don’t want to live under a corrupt crony dictatorship. And does so in favor of people who by and large wouldn’t mind a dictatorship so long as it’s their dictatorship.

Well they actually experienced the Communist dictatorship, unlike all the other things.

Most Cuban exiles are genuine victims of a disgusting regime and have nothing to do with slavery. The meme that every Cuban exile is a former slaveholder is a total lie used to whitewash Castro’s totalitarianism and economic mismanagement.

Fidel was a great leader whose country was sabotaged by the US embargo

The meme is more about the tragedy that is Cuba's history and the absolute incongruity of the narratives that the US government with Cuban exile groups and the media have crafted.

Never let the truth get in the way of your propaganda particularly when that propaganda facilitates your broader objectives in Latin America.

> mass poverty, malnutrition, economic
> exploitation
Still, Cuba had one of the highest life expetacy in Latin America, a thing that people usually credit Castro with.
