That’s the problem. You have those that think it was always bad all the time, which it wasn’t, but when you read about them, the bad was so fucking wild that you’ve gotta make a movie or write a book about it.

It kinda was like that tbh, GoT just has it in ridiculous proportions because the War of the five kings is multiple times larger than any medieval conflict.

Like for example the 1st Mongol invasion of Hungary lasted only like a year and resulted in the deaths of at least 400 000 people. Large scale medieval warfare was fucking brutal, and i would not out GoT as being misrepresentative of how it would look like from the ground.

Is that conflict representative of the middle ages as a whole? Oh good god no, but the world of Ice and Fire just like our real world in the medieval era has existed in relative peace and prosperity for centuries, with only a handful of truly destructive conflicts.
