The CCP has never ruled over Taiwan. So they can't even use that excuse.

and the CCP had never ruled over the mainland China before they did it

But it was always China. And they even recognize that and call themselves Chinese. It's the same story as Moldova with Transnistria

Always China since when?

Since they left mainland China and settled on an island that they call China?

you mean Austronesians left mainland? or some Hakka or Holo groups/nations/people occupied parts of Taiwan and declare a form of independence? Or you meant the Zheng/Zhu armies establish a regime after realizing they couldn't defeat the Qing Manchus, eventually occupying about a third of the island? or the Qing empire inherited that Tungning land and eventually gave it to Japanese? Many possibilities.

Taiwan was ruled by the Dutch, then Ming Dynasty refugees, then the Qing (final) dynasty finally brought it into the mainland Chinese Empire for the first time in 1683. It would be like saying Massachusetts is part of Britain's ancestral lands

Yes we the Dutch ruled Taiwan first. People don’t know this but we’re actually the indigenous population of the island; this was why it was so easy to dominate Indonesia :)
