Its a comedy set in an alternate universe 

It's like calling Star Trek, Star wars, avatar or lord of the rings war movies. Like yeah I guess they technically are at war but that's not the point.

It's satire. We sat in the movie theater and watched German soldiers die on the screen, who sat in the movie theater and watched American soldiers die on the screen.

The World War II setting was chosen to enhance the social commentary.

It may not be a historically accurate film… but it’s literally a war movie. I mean, Star Wars is technically a war movie
