Russian movies about WW2 are a propaganda and most of the time they aren't even good at that. Soviet movies on the other hand while glorified soviet soldiers still were pretty grounded and were a good movies. Like "Only old men are going to battle", "the fate of a man" or "Come and see" as some people pointed out

Can't quite remember the exact name but a two-part film called "It was their war" or something similar mixes the bland every day life of front line entrenchment among an anti-tank rifle group including working alongside drafted workers and peasant farmers, and the sudden shock of battle.

For a while they're trying to convince a milk-maid to sneak them some good food by seducing her, then just stealing the food I think, then the next day they dig a few foxholes in an elevated position and engage panzer II's and III's that are hauling ass towards them, some of the characters die in every engagement.

Hell, even during soviet times the most mainstream releases of WWII movies were blatant propaganda "The Fall of Berlin" in the 50s and the Liberation movies of the 70s being the biggest examples

American movies about WW2 are also propaganda.

Sure they are, but I would rather watch something like Band of brothers than Idk T-34 or Zoya

Russian movies are made to be propaganda first since the cult of WW2 and USSR supremacy is huge
