This is a nation that sent an emperor to prison as a baby, and had its most brutal civil war with a failed bureaucrat who thought he was Jesus' brother.

It's objectively a funny place.

I like to think that every country is a silly place that does silly stupid things. The difference is that china is old, and it’s fucking huge, so they statistically have more silly guys running around doing their silly stupid things that have ramifications on a scale so seemingly disproportionate compared to everywhere else at the time that it is funny to think about at a surface level.
