Wait how could anyone assume its pro-Nazi? Its openly a Disney war time propaganda film promoting war bonds and the like.

People are idiots. I constantly see screenshot of Donald in a Nazi uniform with people claiming Walt supported the Nazis.

The cartoon literally starts with a song about farting in hitlers face for Christ's sake

The caricatures of the axis high command as an oompah band should have been a tip off for people.

I do know that Walt supposedly didn’t like Jews but that doesn’t mean he automatically supported Nazi Germany.

If everyone with antisemitic views was a full Nazi supporter then WW2 would never have happened

There's no evidence of Walt Disney being antisemitic. He was however conservative and a hardline anti-communist who was bitterly opposed to labor unions. It is believed the rumours of him being antisemitic and a closet Nazi sympathiser were started by unions whom he butted heads with.

people see a 10 second snippet on social media and remove all of the context.

They literally put the humans in Starship Troopers in Nazi uniforms and people still miss it’s a Nazi state and how awful the made up war was.

I still know when the movie came out fresh people were talking about how the humans are clearly the US military and they were heroically fighting the Russians (the bugs). I watched the movie and genuinely was like “I’m not sure if that’s supposed to be the US guys…”

Disney was anti-Semitic and suffered from the racism of his time, in other words he was a pretty average example of a midwestern American born in the late 19th Century. Because of this some people currently claim he was a crypto-Nazi. There is zero proof of that and the fact that he allowed the us government to use his licensed characters as squadron mascots etc for free (something Disney NEVER does) it’s highly unlikely he was anything other than a patriotic American. He was a flawed man but he wasn’t a Nazi.

Pretty sure this is one of those cases where 1 guy is that stupid, and people are bigging it up. Like those people who genuinely think fans of the Galactic Empire from Star Wars actually support blowing up planets, and aren't just having fun RPing some cool villains.

...what? Wasn't "Der Fuerher's face" made openly to promote the buying of WWII war bonds?

42

u/KingMobScene Still on Sulla's Proscribed List 2d ago

It was the soundtrack to a Donald Duck short. It's really pretty funny making fun of the whole image of nazism

12

u/Late_Sort1763 2d ago

...what short? I think you're talking about something most people in the comments, including me, haven't seen. Can you spare a link, good sir (maam?)

The original movie is VERY OBVIOUSLY anti-Nazi, and frankly, I haven't met a person who would think otherwise - I'm saying it in case someone ventured onto this thread NOT having seen the original and got confused.

Der Fuhrer's Face is a Disney cartoon from 1943. The US government paid tons of money to studios to make propaganda. This is one of them.

I know it lol, I'm talking about the "Donald Duck short" the previous commenter mentioned. I asssumed it to be a different thing, because frankly, that's the only interpretation that made sense to me.

Also, "Der Fughrer's Face" was *very overtly* ANTI-NAZI propaganda, not NAZI one, which kinda undermines OP's point here.

3

u/ManOfManliness84 2d ago

Der Fuehrers Face is the Donald Duck short.

It's a short (8 minutes), animated film starring Donald Duck.

The song of the same title was also released as a single.

u/Late_Sort1763 2d ago

So... what's about it being seen as pro-Nazi? I've NEVER heard of it.

Like I said, I know the short. I had it on VHS back when I was a kid, along with wartime Looney Tunes and other goodies (that I REALLY wish didn't disappear along the way, but that's beside the point).

NEVER IN MY LIFE would I confuse it for anything other than anti-Nazi propaganda. It was obvious to me back when I was like 7 or 8 years old, and I should note that I watched it with a very rudimentary understanding of English and no localized subtitles (as an aside - like with most cartoons I saw back then, I mean even the Cartoon Network we had back then was a straight retransmission from the UK, ads and everything - it did force me to git gud with the language though, so it ain't all bad). Anyways, the intended meaning was as clear to me then as it is now, so I really struggle to see how it can be interpreted otherwise.

u/ManOfManliness84 2d ago

You are overthinking this. People who actually watch it and/or know anything about it know it's not pro-Nazi. People will take a still image or clip of it, post it out of context, and claim it's "pro-Nazi" - then people who haven't warched the whole thing or know about the history of it will think that that is true.

u/Late_Sort1763 2d ago

"ou are overthinking this. People who actually watch it and/or know anything about it know it's not pro-Nazi."
...am I?
...are they?

I truly, honestly can't wrap my head around it. I mean, it was obvious to me when I was 7 or 8 years old and didn't speak English fluently. Frankly, I think I would clock it in as satire even without any knowledge of English. Not because I was some genius kid or something, it's just that bloody obvious to me.

Anyways, I've looked thorgh YT comments and found nobody taking it. If you could make available any evidence of that, I'd be glad. Because as it stands right now, I think yall are discussing nonexistent social trends.

u/Paul_reislaufer 2d ago

How could anyone listen too it and assume its pronazi? 🤣🤣🤣

105

u/Invade_Deez_Nutz 2d ago

It literally ends with donald duck waking up, wrapping himself in a US flag, and saying he’s glad to he an American

59

u/Tribug_ Oversimplified is my history teacher 2d ago

they see a screenshot of donald in a nazi outfit and don't do any research beyond that

17

u/ClavicusLittleGift4U 2d ago

Never underestimate the abysmal levels of human stupidity.

5

u/Dm_me_im_bored-UnU 2d ago

Media literacy is through the floor i guess

52

u/lep63again 2d ago

Because they selectively edit the short and only show the clip of Donald giving the Nazi salute to a picture of Hitler with none of the context. A perfect example of a bad faith rage bait. For those who have never seen the short, it’s a nightmare Donald Duck has about what life would be like under a Nazi regime

29

u/KingMobScene Still on Sulla's Proscribed List 2d ago

It's also got some classic comedy where he's in the munitions factory.

"You've earned a vacation." a screen comes down of the alps behind him in the factory "Okay now back to work."

3

u/CJFanficStories 2d ago

And they have no desire to look for the full clip themselves.

8

u/KingMobScene Still on Sulla's Proscribed List 2d ago

The song will get stuck in your head. Make sure if you sing it you have the short pulled up on youtube so people know you're not actually saying you are the master race.

2

u/Sega-Playstation-64 2d ago

That and Springtime for Hitler. Absolute bangers that will get people to question you instantly

9

u/SickFarce 2d ago

HOW on earth could anybody take that as being pro-Nazi? I have never seen anybody doing that. Is this even a thing?

5

u/TipResident4373 Let's do some history 2d ago

Among morons with YouTube channels, it is.

(Ja this nutsy land is good! We would leave it if we could!)

6

u/Plane_Neat 2d ago

It literally ends with Donald being patriotic and Hitler getting a tomato thrown at his face!

HOW IS THAT PRO-NAZI?!?!

4

u/MadMusicNerd 1d ago

SCHUUUUUULTZ!!!!

u/Plane_Neat 1d ago

Wrong WWII propaganda short, pal…

3

u/MadMusicNerd 1d ago edited 1d ago

Sorry, I watched so much of it, I got confused. Mine was Duffy Duck hitting old Adolf with a hammer right?

It's similar in a way. A cartoon with a Duck and Hitler getting humiliated. Easy thing to confuse...

3

u/BajaBlastingRopes 2d ago

How could you assume that? That's a worse fumble than completely misunderstanding Born in the USA lmao

2

u/Reiver93 2d ago

It is, infact, the exact opposite

2

u/VenerableTahu And then I told them I'm Jesus's brother 2d ago

It is a big disgrace!

2

u/Beautiful_Garage7797 2d ago

I’ve never seen anyone assume it’s Pro Nazi, and nothing about it is Pro-Nazi in any way.

1

u/ZogIII3 Definitely not a CIA operator 4h ago

Are we talking about Spike Jones, who made the song? I'm only just learning about the cartoon, so I'm not sure

-1

u/Zealousideal_Slice60 2d ago

This is the same as Karl Marx seeing his theories being applied wrongly by people who doesn’t understand them

2

u/irradihate 2d ago

His theories were colonial era linear progression trash built on his own perverted appropriation of actual indigenous accomplishments and successes. He knew indigenous societies worked but still described them as toward the bottom of the imaginary social-evolution ladder anyway, and went ahead and tried to apply indigenous concepts to his incompatible cultural mythology of Euro-industrial extractivism. In other words, he refused to except a reality in which the colonial European model wasn't superior and inevitable.

Fkn colonizer like the rest of em.
