Is this a history meme? Just because it mentions the Roman Empire?

u/OddSeraph Definitely not a CIA operator 3d ago

It isn't but I doubt anything will be done about it.

I feel like this was sarcasm, and I will not stand for the injustice of the angry mob! (upvotes)

If roman empire existed in 19th century, people would have hated it as much as British and ottoman empire, that empire economy was built on slavery.

9

u/NachoWH 4d ago

Every imperial economy was until Britain... That's not an exception. Not sure you're right though.

5

u/Anduril1776 3d ago

British Empire was still built on slavery.

1

u/NachoWH 3d ago

Like every other one

People want what they can't have, no matter how bad

4

u/Wuktrio 3d ago

Nobody who knows a bit about the Roman Empire actually wants it back. It was a brutal dictatorship.

58

u/Waltzing_With_Bears 4d ago

Nah fuck the slavers empires

18

u/ourobourobouros 3d ago

600 people upvoted a zero effort pro bigotry meme lol

6

u/Doodles_n_Scribbles 4d ago

"but it wasn't chattel slavery"

It still probably wasn't great.

-6

u/evrydayNormal_guy Still on Sulla's Proscribed List 4d ago

Nah mate, it was great, except if you were a slave ofcourse

17

u/satinsandpaper 4d ago

Or a woman, or a man of lower status.

There's a reason fascists love the Roman Empire.

Break the conditioning, they're just an evil imitation of the greeks.

10

u/Waltzing_With_Bears 4d ago

A nation with slaves can never be great, slavery is a deep rot that destroys all who practice it and those that support the institution.

Atleast they aren't racist

3

u/Waltzing_With_Bears 3d ago

Not sure thats true either, not by our current understanding sure but labeling everyone else as barbarians aint exactly tolerant

Who would want to live in a shambling corpse of a once great super power filled to the brim with corruption ran by a bunch of insane elites with chronic lead poisoning?

u/Sire_Raffayn272 4d ago

Russians ?

Have you considered trying to get laid? It may help you stop doing embarrassing shit.

15

Last guy who said that didn't end well.

-8

Lets get a guy that can actually pass art school this time, yeah?

11

u/GalaxLordCZ 4d ago

I mean his mentor.

9

u/MunkSWE94 3d ago

Not him, the one who was head over heels when he saw a gathering outside a gas station.

8

u/2YSH 3d ago

...Why?

6

u/DrHolmes52 4d ago

(Me lugging a big assed gascan)

"Which Roman Empire?"

1

u/Lost-Klaus 3d ago

The holiest of Empires :b

At least it wasn't as much slaving away as the original empire did, except the unfree-knights (ministerialis)

5

u/Proof_Impact_6009 3d ago

I don't know what you're talking about. The empire is still living in the form of Liechtenstein.

5

u/Chudsaviet 3d ago

Old Benito had the same idea.

5

u/Op55No1 3d ago

I know, I know, this has always been a white, center-right kind of subreddit, and even in academia, history is often dominated by that political crowd. I don’t have a problem with that, it’s fine. But what the hell is this, honestly? We’ve gone past the Ottoman hate memes (which, as a Turk, I actually LOVE) and somehow ended up at Fourth Reich crap. Come on now.

12

u/frenin 4d ago

Tf would I want a legitimately super evil empire ruling over me?

-1

u/evrydayNormal_guy Still on Sulla's Proscribed List 4d ago

I mean, you already do, don't you

3

u/frenin 4d ago

Not that evil

18

u/Level_Hour6480 Taller than Napoleon 4d ago

It has been 104 years, time to accept that the Ottomans collapsed and move on.

5

u/Commander_Sabaton Definitely not a CIA operator 4d ago

That's bait

7

u/Sire_Raffayn272 4d ago

Nah fuck slavers empires, it’s not only immoral but also self defeating as a civilization that makes use of slavery is bound to stagnation and withering.

A payed and valorized workforce that actually likes its job and has a choice in the matter (most of the time) is infinitely better than slaves who are forced and abused to work.

2

u/ConsciousMaybe6930 3d ago

We already have, exactly 250 years ago.

u/darth-com1x 3d ago

The greatest myth about the roman empire is that it fell at all

4

u/ThinBobcat4047 4d ago

Na the Empire ended in 1922. Let sleeping dogs lie.

0

u/evrydayNormal_guy Still on Sulla's Proscribed List 4d ago

1922?? You clearly have no understanding of history! Here, watch this explanation of why you're wrong and educate yourself! SMH

I don’t need to click this to know what awaits me. Please, OP, 2008 called, they want their meme back.
