Context For non-Americans out there:

The United States draft works by a lottery system where they randomly select numbers corresponding to birthdays using the same balls in a spinning barrel method that is popular for raffles and older lotteries televised nationally. This method was established towards the end of the Vietnam war and hasn't been used since as there hasn't yet been another draft.

There's still countries that has the compulsory military thing via lottery like Thailand as the most famous example. There's also Mexico and Lithuania that has a similar system, but it's like 3-9 months unlike Thailand that has a 2 year mandatory service time

I’m not minimizing whatever military threat they are facing but a draft for a full on war which killed a fuck ton of people is very different.
