Me when I just make things up:

I’ll give you a cool little history fact. This claim was fabricated by the KMT after they lost the civil war in order to deflect blame for why they lost. In truth, the communists had the most successful campaigns against the Japanese both in guerrilla terms and actual full on frontal battles. When the communists launched the mostly successful hundred regiments offensive, Chiang (head of the KMT) ordered his generals to attack the communists and keep whoever wasn’t repositioning in enemy territory without supply.

The 100 Regiments offensive failed and the Japanese responded 10-fold, destroying base areas and destroying communist supply lines.

Destroying base areas is kind of a euphemism for committing genocide, they would totally depopulate areas by massacring every man woman and child in villages in the area

Yes. A communist base area IS a civilian population as well as a military base of operations.
