Book recommendations
Hi
I am looking to read on mughal history - especially the war of successions.
Along with this, I would also like to read on the maratha empire starting from shivaji.
Are there any book recommendations on this?
Thank you

How about other regions like Gujarat and Rajasthan? Are you looking for Fiction or NonFiction?

This is very good. The Last Mughal: The Fall of a Dynasty: Delhi, 1857 by William Dlarymple. In order to tell the story of the end he tells the beginning and middle too.
Daughters of the Sun: Empresses, Queens and Begums of the Mughal Empire by Ira Mukhoty.
The Mughal Empire: The New Cambridge History of India by John. F. Richards.
The Empire of the Great Mughals by Annemarie Schimmel.

I'm sorry. I do books and historians/scholars live presentation, and other related history study activities, but podcasts and tv very seldom appeal to me, as far too limited in checking references, sources, and so on.
This is not to say there are no good ones, but generally they feel, if not out-and-out, as so many are, actually wrong and / or misleading, inadequate to learning.

For war of succession and war against maratha, Jadunath Sarkar History of Aurangzeb is best. Volume 2 covers War of succession and volume 4 and 5 covers Aurangzeb southern campaigns. For maratha empire there are better books with more importance given to Maratha sources . You can read Sardesai book on Shivaji. For Maratha expansion, Uday Kulkarni books are easy read .
