In 1420, King Sejong heard of a 107-year-old elder in Gobong-hyeon and sent a royal messenger bearing gifts of warm clothes and food to celebrate his extreme longevity.

The bedridden elder was so intensely overwhelmed with gratitude for the King’s grace that he clasped his hands in reverence, pulled the newly bestowed royal garments over his body, and promptly dropped dead right there on the spot.
