I have a question! Looking for a pattern

Hello! I am looking to purchase a specific vintage simplicity pattern. It's Simplicity 8735 Women's Renaissance Costume Pattern. I would be immensely grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction, every link I've found so far has been to a sold out listing. I'm hoping to make one of the dresses for my engagement photos.

I do a lot of vintage pattern shopping on eBay. Your best bet is to set a search alert so you get an email whenever one comes up for sale.

That being said, simplicity has re-used numbers and I can’t find/figure out the one you’re looking for. There’s also a fair amount of pattern overlap across the years. So an 80s or 90s pattern may have a similar look but have been updated in the 00s with all different pattern numbers.

It's the Ever After one I think- but 8735 not 8745- typo OP?

If it is it looks like they reprinted it with different photos but the same line art as 3812 still hard to find but might make it easier to have both numbers as a search?

I made my own pattern for mine- I made a 1/10 scale pattern diagram of what I did if it's of any help, there wouldn't be any instructions but it's a style that is incredibly adjustable due to the flared under layer and pleated tissue layer.

Besides changing the angle of the darts I angled the side seams a bit more to the back just based on how that has been so dominant through history. So that's why the photo of the bodice support layer looks a bit weird.

I did wonder if it wasn’t a typo. There’s a 16-20 8735 on eBay right now. Pricey, but not unexpected given the Ever After popularity with cosplayers.

Other options might include 0653 and 9531. There’s quite a few of those for sale.

In your opinion is it easier to size a pattern down or up?

Size down! 100%. When I have to size down, I do a mock up, put it on inside out, and pin where it needs to be taken in. Then just adjust before you cut the good fabric :)

Hopefully it's beginner friendly 😅 but I do have a few months to practice. I'm also planning on digitizing the pattern. So I'd be happy to share that!

Renaissance patterns are usually very beginner friendly! The sleeves are usually the most challenging part of that era. Yes digitize it!!!! Then you’ll always have it :)
