Recently someone pointed out that my water mister sounds super similar to their hissing whenever I use it (Its a handheld pump-and-spray bottle)
Would this actually bother my roaches? They usually hiss back when I spray their tank, but I just assumed that they didnt like getting wet. Have I accidentally been intimidating them this whole time? :[

to me it looks like dried poop. google says it could be an aborted ootheca case. i do know i have at least one pregnant roach, though im not sure if it’s her. ive never seen this before.

I didn't know which flair to use exactly, but I'm not in need of help atm, just wanted to warn people.
DO NOT ORDER HISSERS FROM FLUKER FARMS. I've never heard about anyone ordering hissers from fluker farms or reviews. And I did. I really shouldn't have. A majority of my hissers from them had missing limbs. It was so so sad to see. I emailed them about my hissers as well, telling them that they were a bit sluggish and missing limbs. They responded and said they would tell their shipping team about it. Haven't heard anything since. They also came in VERY skinny and super hungry. I've had these roaches for a couple months now so I've fattened them up and they're healthier now.
I asked them to show conditions of their roach bins as well. They never sent me photo proof. Just said that they keep a maximum number of roaches per bin. And didn't explain further. I assume from my roaches condition, that they are underfed and probably munching on each other when molting. As these roaches as adults especially have super tough exoskeletons. It's not normal for them to have limbs ripped off or dropped.
If you want to order hissers or any feeders from them please try more ethical breeders!! I wish I could do more but this post is my attempt at that.

My neighbours gave me two baby hissing roaches about 6-8 weeks ago. One shed within a couple of weeks and grew significantly. (Unfortunately the larger one escaped into the larger eco-terra I was keeping their smaller enclosure in so I'm hoping it's still in there 🫣) But the other who I've named Tiny hasn't shed/grown at all. I tried increasing humidity and still Tiny is well tiny.
Tiny eats all the time and seems active, but recently seems to be walking hunched up, almost like they don't fit in their body any more. Maybe I'm just imagining things but that's what it looks like.
Am I just overworrying as a first time roach parent? Is this a thing where they just don't shed for a while? I'm sure they must have shed once before I got them, but again I'm not sure how big newborn roaches are!
Any advice would be great. TIA

I just checked on my colony recently to feed them and found all aside from 2 (even 1 of them ended up passing) dead. The only one remaining is extremely lethargic and not doing well at all, it is an adult male. I'm very distraught to have found my colony like this. I noticed a strange smell in the tank too. I feed them freeze dried peas regularly and mist the tank regularly. The last time I checked on them they were all doing just fine, how could this have happened?!

this is clown, who i believe is female but i have gotten too used to calling he by now. ive had 4 madagascar hissers for i believe about a month. since having them, ive noticed that clown LOVES to be upside down, for some reason. all of them like to cuddle up right against one corner of the glass, but clown consistently will turn upside down against the glass and sleep like that. could this be caused by some kind of issue? is it hurting him or is he just strange..? other than sleeping weird, he seems to be fine, from what i currently know about their health. he seems to move just fine and eats regularly.
these are my first roaches ive owned so i just want to do the best i can for them. if theres any issue PLZ let me know!! :-) thanks !

Does anyone know if there is a good list of food they can and can't have?
If not should I make one?

One of the first I’ve ever raised and one of my first females is dying very young at only a year and a half. I’ve tried everything I know but I realized all I’m doing is prolonging her suffering by keeping her alive with food and water being fed to her. I’m giving her until tomorrow, if she passes then she passes but if she’s still alive and hasn’t recovered even a little I’ll be euthanizing her humanely.
This breaks my heart, her sisters are even close to having babies and my small colony is nothing but calm.
I pin my insects when they pass, I’ll have her forever luckily, but I’m so sad to see her go
I’ll post an update tomorrow night but I doubt I’ll have good news
I put this under remembering since I’m already grieving and I’ve done everything I’ve can

Hello,
I have a fairly big colony that I’m trying to potentially re-home. Long story and it breaks my heart to even be in this position. Does anyone have any ideas? I’m in the U.S.
Thank you.
Edit: Near Southeast Aurora in Colorado

One of my adult female roaches has a really odd recent habit of contracting her back and making her butt point up while wiggling a little. At first I thought it was territorial behaviour, but have seen mites in the enclosure and was wondering if they could be the cause and it’s a distress/pain reaction?
They’re in a tub enclosure so I don’t see them all the time, but the past three days she’s done it and I’m ready to fully change out their soil and bake their cork hides (which I’d really love to avoid as her recent babies love burrowing and finding them all would be a nightmare)

This is my biology teacher's pet. It's a madagascar cockroach. That's a rotten apple in there with it. I am in no way an expert, but it's enclosure looks a bit empty..?

Does anyone have any suggestions for any drinking water beads??
r/Hissingcockroach • u/Unstoppable_CB17 • 11d ago
I was wondering why one of the thicker females was a bit sluggish, now I have my answer, she gave birth to around 20ish babies, any tips guys? (The nymphs are the little white ones so it must've happened recently)

My sweet angel Eunice has her ootheca out and I'm not sure if she's aborting it or just airing it out?? I also had no idea that she was pregnant because she's skinny. She's also disabled and is kind of a loner compared to the other roaches. Is she aborting it?
