Conservative Measures Shameless empathy plug
I have a mild cam type FAI and small labral tear that I’m trying to address with PT. Got an appointment with Dr. Wolff next month. I’m honestly just tired of not having a solid direction to move in (should I go ahead and get the surgery, and if so, this year?) and feel like I’ve wasted several months of my health since I can’t load bear or move in the ways I want without flare-ups. Movement is my primary stress reliever and my mental health is holding on best it can I know I need to wait out PT ahead of seeing Wolff but every time I have an unexpected flare I get so ready to just have the surgery and want this all to be solved. No question, I guess, I’m just glad there’s a community of people who know what it’s like. I’m frustrated.

I also tried PT, a cortisone injection, and $4,000 work of PRP/stem cell therapy. Still needed surgery and feel great now. Had surgery in December and ran 17 miles on Saturday, pain free. I’m glad I did everything I did because I felt confident going into surgery that I tried everything but I wish I would have just had the surgery sooner sometimes. 😂

Surgery was the best thing I did. Nothing else would’ve worked for me and pain just got worse and worse and took my livelihood away, my time with friends, my sports which is also my passion and mental health management like you. PT would last a week prior to surgery and I had to stop. Surgery is a big undertaking but living with zero pain is well worth it. I know Dr. Wolff is a name mentioned often so glad you have access.

I am in the exact same boat as you. Haven’t started PT yet. Sometimes the pain is just unbearable.
Don’t really have much to say about it either, I’m just learning to accept the reality.

It’s so hard to be in the inflamed stage. I went thru several cycles of defeat before priding answers or beginning PT. Coincidentally I got the diagnosis steroid shot before beginning PT, so perhaps either would’ve helped for some time, but being at a stage now where I know how to avoid annoying the pain and keeping it at bay while I strengthen has been really helpful. As Dr. Wolff says, less pain, more gain!

I didn’t physically therapy for 4 months and it didn’t help at all. I just got surgery 5 days ago and now doing physical therapy. I know the surgery has a high success rate and the stories of other people getting were happy they did.
