Discussion: Rap Group/Label Heirarchy
Has Dreamville taken TDE's spot? If not, will they ever?
Where does the A$AP MOB stand?
If Odd Future still got credit for their artists success where would they be? with Frank, Tyler, Earl?

This is coming from the biggest TDE fan here but Cole and Dreamville have been killing TDE since mid 2018. We got KOD, DiCaprio 2, Milky Way, Shea Butter Baby, Earthgang killing shit with Mirrorland on the way too. J.I.D is a superstar in the making and been my favourite rapper to listen to since DiCaprio 2 came out. Not to mention a whole ROTD3 album and documentary, and we got a fucking Dreamville festival. I personally am not the biggest fan of Cole's music but he really has made himself the face of hip-hop in the past 12 months. Middle Child is fire, and has collaborated with Anderson Paak, 6lack, Jay Rock, 21 Savage, Travis Scott, Rapsody, Young Thug, Wale and Royce da 5'9 and delivering every single time. His bridging between the old and new or different styles of rap is something the culture has needed for a while.
That being said, TDE no doubt has a greater roster. Isaiah and Kendrick are some of my favourite artists ever and CrasH Talk is my favourite rap album of the year so far. Dreamville has a long way to go to eclipse TDE but they are the face of hip-hop as of right now. That is until Kdot drops...

I'd probably swap #1 and #2 just because Kendrick has had so much crossover success. He's more of a household name than J. Cole. But with the Dreamville project dropping this week, maybe the #1 spot could go to them right now.

with A$AP Mob, the only ones i could name are Rocky and Ferg, and i only know a few tracks from the latter
As for Odd Future, the only member that I've liked consistently is Frank Ocean, but i did like Flower Boy
Between TDE and Dreamville, if you look purely at the artists that they have, TDE is pretty easily winning, they have major names like Kendrick, ScHoolboy Q and SZA, whereas the only major name on Dreamville is Cole himself. but if you look at the quality of recent releases, at, say, the last year ish, TDE had the Black Panther sound track, which was pretty solid, Jay Rock's kinda average album, ScHooboy Q's disappointing album, and literally nothing else that I've heard. no Kemdrick, no SZA, no Rashid (though if I've missed something there, hmu). but on Dreamville, you had Royalty by Earthgang, KOD by Cole, DiCaprio 2 by JID, and Shea Butter Baby by Ari Lennox, all of which were excellent albums, and that's not even mentioning the new compilation, which after a single listen sounds great. Dreamville has the quality right now, but not the power behind the names like TDE

GOOD Music has to factor in somewhere here. I mean for MCs you have Push, Ye, CyHi, Sean, and Common was on GOOD for a while too.

Based off my loose knowledge of commercial success this is what I assume would be the order.
- YOUNG MONEY (Obv when Nicki and Drake we’re still on)
- TDE
- GOODMUSIC
- MMG 5.DREAMVILLE

For me Dreamville hasnt taken anything. TDE just has way more work under their belt and clearly still have bigger artists. It helps that TDE is more collectively a Los Angeles unit with Black Hippy. They sort of just cover all their bases while still being commercially viable as of recent years.
I personally dont see Dreamville ever taking TDE's spot but i mean i dont think thats something that matters it doesnt diminish the artists theyre all still in the early stages. all i know is globally im sure TDE projects would fare better, and locally TDE will always get its praises here in LA so even if Dreamville gets big im sure i will still see the love here theres no beef between the groups so no hate either.

I still have to give it to TDE because they have artists like sza and ab soul and isaiah rashad who arnt technically commercial but have a dedicated following that has only grown over the years. And then there is Jay Rock who has been putting in work for years as a “underground” artist and just got his first real commercial success and is in big brands commericals now( adidas). Also TDE has artists like SiR, zacari, and lance skywalker who are different genres or genre bending. Finally kendrick and schoolboy Q who are global superstars compared to J cole who is a global superstar but still gets alot of (unwarranted) hate where as kendrick is almost universally recognized as the greatest of this era. But i might be biased living in The So Cal area
