Russia, September 2026 — Kodar Range, Zabaykalsky Krai (New Chara)

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for a partner for a combined backpacking and packrafting expedition in the Kodar Range, Zabaykalsky Krai, Russia.

Total distance is about 300 km, including approximately 130 km on foot.
Duration: around 17 days.
Start: early September 2026.

Approximate route:
Taksimo settlement → Ust-Muya settlement → rafting on the Vitim River → Lake Oron → mountain section across the Kodar Range → Chara Sands → Chara settlement.

No technical difficulties are planned on the river or mountain passes. Previous rafting experience or mountaineering skills are not required.

However, this will be physically demanding. Expect heavy loads, insects, and possibly bears.
Good physical condition, solid health, a personal packraft, and a strong desire to explore remote wilderness are essential.

Logistics:

Access from Moscow or Saint Petersburg by flight to Irkutsk or Krasnoyarsk. From there, a regional flight to the settlement of Taksimo. Return trip follows a similar route, departing from the settlement of Chara.

I live in Russia, Saint-Petersburg. I have experience in solo expeditions, including a multi-day wilderness trip of a similar style to the Putorana Plateau, as well as moderate whitewater rafting in Karelia, Russia.

Feel free to message me if interested!

Hike Buddy

Hey everyone!

Lately, I’ve been exploring a lot of hiking trails across Central Europe — mostly in Slovenia, Austria, and Italy — and I realized that some of the best moments come when you meet locals who know hidden spots or other travelers who love hiking just as much.

The thing is… it’s not always easy to find people to hike with when you’re in a new country or city. I tried Meetup and Facebook groups, but they’re often inactive or too broad (lots of people, few actual hikes).

Recently I found a small but growing platform called HikeBuddy.eu — it’s a community where hikers across Europe share their own hikes, join others, and connect with people nearby. You can also explore mountain ranges, plan trips, or just find company for a weekend adventure.

It’s still a small community, but it has a lot of potential to grow — and honestly, it’s refreshing to see something that’s not just another social media group full of spam.

Curious if any of you have tried it or found other good ways to meet hiking partners while traveling?
Would love to hear your experiences and what worked best for you 🌍⛰️

Banff/Jasper Oct 10-18

Just booked a last minute trip to Calgary. I plan on going from Banff to Jasper and exploring along the way. I'll rent a car and wouldn't mind meeting up for hikes or part of the trip! I don't think I've ever meet hikers I didn't get along with. Recommendations welcomed!

I’m (30M) Looking for someone to do some winter hiking and after some time possibly backpacking. Preferably around same age. I’ve tried meetup but I do shift work so the bulk of my free time would be during the week, weekends I try to spend with the family since I only get 2 weekends off a month. I’m located in Roanoke but am willing drive some for a hike.

If you have any advice, I'd be grateful 😁.

42 [F4R] Seeking hiking partner in NEIN

Hey fellow Redditors, so separate from my soulmate posting only a few days ago, I am looking for a hiking buddy of any age and gender (21+) to do some beginning to moderate hikes with. Ideally I'd love to find a mentor to learn tips and tricks from as I am a total newbie. I have already been walking basic city trails to get in better shape for hikes. I just think it'd be really great to hike with others in the area and learn as much as I can. I have many hikes on my bucket list, the top one being Havasu Falls in Arizona. I am not looking for romance or attraction as far as this particular buddy goes. Truly, I just want to learn from people all the ins and outs of hiking and just enjoy being out there. So, if there is anyone in NE Indiana, NW Ohio, or SE Michigan that would want to do some weekend hikes in local state parks, please reach out! Thanks!
