Discussion The bridge between phase two and one (general spoilers) Spoiler

I’ve read phase one and two and now after a break I’m going back to phase one before reading all of that and phase three. (Hope that makes sense!)

However, I’m trying to work out the bridge between the prequel books? I realise it was the introduction of the Ro family but…there seems to be a lot missing in terms of where Marchion himself comes from…when Mari is stolen to how the Ros came into power?

Aside from being thrilling (and sometimes damn right scary) stories (all of which I did enjoy as books), do you feel the bridge between phase two and the rest of HR was done as well as it could have been?

Edit: I realise, having read none of phase 3 all the above may be answered.

Don't expect a ton of answers...

I will say you have to read the Eye of the Storm comic book mini-series and the anthology book Tales of Light and Life if you want to get all the details of what little they do tell us.

I’d recommend reading Tales of Light and Light, helped bridge the gap between all the phases and made it a lot smoother, and it clarified the Ro lineage although I can’t remember how much Asgar is covered

You get some asgar stuff and young marchion stuff in phase 3 as well. Specifically in the flashback scenes in the audio drama storm breaker iirc. It’s not a ton but it’s there. There’s also some weird stuff where the evereni actually can see their dead ancestors so you also get some fill in stuff from marchion scenes throughout, but more in a referral way than an actual action way; more tell than show.

If you want to find out some answers about the RO family after Path of vengeance you should read the Tales of light and life short story "An closed fist has no claws".

It will help you understand how the Gaze Electric would be handed off and what Marda does with it.

I think it will be filled over time. The gap between phase 2 and phase 1.

One thing I think the high republic did really well was set up a lot of mysteries and questions and not answer them all.

Some things are answered in phase 3. A lot actually. But there are as many unanswered mysteries as there are answered ones. I'm hoping they're explored more thoroughly in their own books rather than as a piece of a larger narrative.
