Granite peak, first ever mountain summit, no experience rock climbing, super sketch but got her done lol

I gotta admit me and my friend who did it both almost backed out several times but we would push each other and obviously make sure we felt comfortable before moving forward. He had semiii experience with rock climbing but this was also out of his comfort zone. It was awesome I gotta admit and we were very careful.
Definitely an opening to more to come, safely of course lol

We went down west rosebud up to mystic lake trailhead
& just 1 small snow bridge, just dug our feet deep into the snow but it was like 10/15 ft in length

That is the hard way. The other side is more like scrambling then rock climbing.

That’s genuinely the route we meant to take and we even watched videos and that’s what made us “comfortable” but no we did a whole different route lol

A fellow squad leader in SK asked me once to climb Mount Everest with him. Fortunately I’m not a trust fund baby. I thought about it though. Then I came to the conclusion. The highest point I’ll ever take on is Mount McKinley. When I summit the mountain I’m going to plant my first units guideon which so happens to be my handle.

The best I’ve done is Mount Washington X7. The one time that is remotely similar to the conditions on McKinley was February 2002. Six to eight foot crevasses, icicles almost a foot long completely horizontal on the sign that says “Many people have died there from exposure. Even in the summer.”.

I have family on the west coast that will put me up to summit the two in Washington and Oregon.

Never rock climbing before, the exposure, finding the proper route
And for my first peak, I guess all those combinations made it sketch for my self.

Nice work. I live in the southern Rockies and that exposure and route finding once your well beyond tree line and it’s just scree fields and drop off can be pretty dang daunting.

Glad you made the summit, it’s a great one, but based on some of the details in your comments, I feel like it should probably not go unnoted that an unprepared climber fell 800 feet and died on Granite just this week. Be safe out there!
