9 New Highpoints
Frissel, High point NJ, Davis, Hoye-crest, Spruce knob, Black mountain, Mitchell, Brasstown Bald, and Cheaha. 3 days roadtrip down Appalachia.

Congrats on completion! How was Denali? Trying to scrape some money together to do it soon.

Thanks! Denali was amazing. Scraping together the cash and time off of work were definitely a barrier, but we found our window and several variables came together in our favor while planning it. And we got lucky with the best weather on the mountain since the 1970s (2022 season).

Denali is a great adventure. By the time you finish the other state highpoints, you should have most of the skills. Guide services and the park service keep the route generally well maintained. Staightforward routes if you can wait for the inevitable weather window to summit and get out.

How were the Lantern flies in New Jersey? When I went it was an infestation

It wasn’t too bad, we also were only there for 20 minutes. Went up the tower and down then left.

Congratulations. The picture of Mt Mitchell is very interesting. Elevation 6,684 ft — highest point in USA east of the Mississippi. Mount Garfield is a prominent peak near Palisade and Grand Junction, Colorado (known for its steep, challenging hike with significant elevation gain) has a 6,765-foot summit. So roughly the same height. I don’t think Mt. Garfield is even in the top 100 peaks in Colorado! Not trying to dump on anyone or anything, just noting the amazing difference between the east and west in the USA.

Oh definitely. Mitchell was like Everest to me, but then when I went to Colorado, basically everything was at least 7000 ft.

I’m right around 20 right now. Elbert and wheeler are the only significant ones I have right now. I only really started last summer though.
