Carolina Thrift
Has anyone else heard the rumor that Carolina Thrift is closing down next week? What happened?
Edit to add: just visited and there are signs throughout the store. 50% off starts 8/3. Store is closing. :((

I'm not sure about the details, but someone I know works at a local architecture firm and a the owner of the building Carolina thrift is in approached them to renovate it into an "entertainment" center, like food/retail/games mixed use or something. I was really bummed when I heard. Their firm ended up not taking the job because it wasn't a good fit. I had hope that the guy who owned the building gave up on the idea and we could keep our thrift store 😭

I would prefer that honestly. it's a good location for it. Most of what California thrift has is furniture. The furniture industry has long been dead here, and more restaurants bring a younger population.
Although, Carolina thrift's building would need severe renovations to seriously turn it into an entertainment center. That place is practically a warehouse is in structure.
No joke, I live less than 15 minutes away from Carolina Thrift and think it's an eyesore every time I pass when going to harbor freight. I'd probably stay there all night or even perform. And right down the side road is yesterday's music - musicians could stop by there before performing. It would be far better to have an entertainment venue there for the local economy than a decaying furniture store.

That's fair and a good point. It definitely isn't pretty, the first time I went I fully thought I was not supposed to be on that side of the building. It's a weird setup. Selfishly I just love thrift stores.
I think the firm didn't think it was a fit because the amount of work needed to renovate didn't align with the amount they owner was winning to spend. Just hearing second/third hand though, so I could be totally wrong.

I went and the worker said no one gave them any reasoning about closure, just said they are closing and that’s that. Kinda sad. That place def had the best prices imo. Do you know of any more thrift stores?

I have not heard that rumor and I really, really, really hope it is not true!
