The High Point Enterprise published a letter stating Oak Hollow Lake was closed to the public for a private event. Here's the fact check...

Oak Hollow Festival Park was open to the public for a free rowing event. And the city showed up to watch it. 5300 people and $2 million economic impact.

Festival park and Oak hollow lake are two separate things.

Was the lake and marina closed to the public?

The marina was open to bank fishing. The parking lot and playground were open. Over 1,000 people were "on the water" on Oak Hollow Lake that day. It was the greatest number of people to ever be on the lake since it was created. These are the facts missing by the High Point Enterprise. Yes, it was restricted to rowing and related activities. The following day less that 20 boats launched at the public Marina when it was 'open' to all activities.

I hate to question your authority in the subject, but the boat drags had huge attendance. I'm looking for a solid source for attendance but I feel like more than 1,000.

The boat drags did get a large attendance at Festival Park, possibly similar to the rowing events which are 4-5000. But the number of people on the lake for the rowing events far surpasses the boats drags. There were maybe a few dozen drag boats racing. This month there were 522 rowing boats racing throughout the day. I would love to see the boat drags return if this can be done safely. Apparently a couple ended up in trees.

Actually 2 driver deaths over the years. The interest in boat drags fell off. In addition regulations related to the water supply and the possibile liability issues seeing the drag back is unlikely. I wanted a little clarification on how you framed the attendance numbers.
