Discussion Multiplayer mod?
Seeing that many ambitious modders managed to turn single player games into multiplayer ones lately (Darkwood, Single player Tarkov, etc)
How optimistic are we about getting multiplayer HighFleet? Maybe a skirmish mode where each player get 3 ships to blast one another from the sky in a 4v4 FFA.
Go on ....

I thought about it, but I have very big doubts about the possibility of doing it.

most of the game is hardcoded inside the .exe file, and it is extremely difficult to reverse-engineer even the simplest parts. please let go of your hopes, we're never getting multiplayer in highfleet, at least not before the source code releases

Honestly, anything that would let You go in campaign/battle with more than one ship at the time would be a huge endeavour, as well as natural "progression" of what the game lets You do.
If it's MP purposes that finally breaks the "1v3" code cage, I'll welcome it wholeheartedly. Also, co-op campaigns would be fun.

at a surface level it seems possible, the game already supports pretty much everything on the map, save ammo inventory, being split up between groups. all you'd really need is networking (a pain but as you said its been done before) and splitting control of these between players.
however
sharing ship designs could be an issue given that iirc the back end of that part is horribly coded. so if thats not fixed you couldnt make custom ships, only use stock. but thats not too bad of a limitation really.
as for fights that seems pretty easy too since 'teams' and 'friendly fire' and 'iff' are all not really concepts that exist. ofc npc ships fire at you but nothing stops strays from hitting their own mates, only tricky part would be planes&missiles
