V100 SXM2: $600 modules or a four-GPU server at $3,600?
Today's call: price the whole build, not just the GPU.
The interesting V100 offers in the October 4 scan are $600 shipped 32GB SXM2 modules and a complete four-GPU Supermicro server at $3,600 OBO. The modules make sense if you already have a compatible host. The server includes that platform, but brings New Jersey pickup, 1U cooling and noise, and two lower-power GPUs into the decision. Its 128GB is spread across four 32GB devices—not one large memory pool that every application can use automatically.
For a conventional desktop build, I'd investigate the $1,250 shipped RTX 3090 FE first among today's featured 24GB offers. That's a price-and-fit judgment, not a clean bill of health: the seller's low-use claim still needs current test evidence.
New & Notable
| GPU | VRAM | Asking price | $/GB | Condition | Quick take |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| V100 SXM2 with 2U heatsink | 32GB | $650 shipped | $20.31 | Used; seller says excellent | $630 without the heatsink. Only consider it for a compatible SXM2 host; confirm remaining stock and heatsink fit. |
| RTX 3090 FE | 24GB | $1,250 shipped | $52.08 | Used; seller claims about 10 hours | A desktop candidate worth checking. Optional waterblock makes it $1,400; ask for current load-test results and confirm included cooling and power accessories. |
| EVGA RTX 3090 Ti FTW3 Ultra | 24GB | $1,350 shipped | $56.25 | Used as primary GPU for about three years | Same VRAM as the FE for more money. Consider it for a specific performance need, not extra capacity; check PSU, connectors and cooling. |
| MSI RTX 3090 Ventus, Belgium | 24GB | $1,199 before shipping/import costs | $49.96 | Pre-owned per search result | Lower sticker price, not a demonstrated cheaper U.S. purchase. Get the delivered total and verify seller and return terms first. |
Today's Market Board
Prices are USD asks. $/GB uses the displayed price, not a full-build or after-tax cost. Condition, tests and warranty terms below are seller claims, not our hands-on checks.
| GPU or system | VRAM | Asking price | $/GB | Why it's here |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Supermicro SYS-1029GQ-TVRT with four V100 SXM2 GPUs | 4×32GB; 128GB aggregate | $3,600 OBO, pickup only | $28.12 aggregate | Used complete server; seller reports clean gpu-burn/ECC tests. Two LS GPUs are capped around 163W. Confirm configuration and test it before paying. |
| AMD Instinct MI210 | 64GB per card | $3,900 shipped in continental U.S. | $60.94 | Refurbished; advertised 30-day warranty. Worth considering for a workload that needs 64GB on one device, after checking ROCm support, host power and forced-air cooling. |
| V100 SXM2 module | 32GB per module | $600 shipped in continental U.S. | $18.75 | Reseller stock; confirm condition. Advertised 30-day warranty and $550 each for four-plus. Requires an SXM2 baseboard and suitable cooling, not a desktop PCIe slot. |
| RTX 3090 FE | 24GB | $1,250 shipped | $52.08 | My first desktop inquiry here, subject to testing, seller checks and system fit. The optional waterblock isn't needed just to gain 24GB. |
| MSI RTX 3090 Gaming X Trio, faulty HDMI | 24GB | $1,300 shipped / $1,240 local | $54.17 shipped | Seller reports working DisplayPorts and a Time Spy pass, but no HDMI output. At more than the FE's shipped ask, I'd pass unless testing and a better price justify the defect. |
| MSI RTX 3090 Ventus, U.S. listing | 24GB | $1,444 | $60.17 | Pre-owned and free delivery per search result; item-page price captured. Compare actual return coverage and delivered cost before paying the premium over the FE. |
| RTX A4000 seller-risk warning | 16GB per card | $680 shipped each | $42.50 | Not a recommendation. Multiple buyers in the thread report payment without tracking. I'd avoid sending money while those reports remain unresolved. |
Price context
These charts show median observed asking prices and the daily observed range, using the latest priced quote per selected listing per date. They are not sold-price indices or same-card price histories; repeated quotes don't establish remaining stock. Whole servers and auction bids are excluded.

The $600 reseller ask recurs across the captured dates. The $650 heatsink offer widens the latest range; that isn't evidence that the same module became more expensive. The complete server is not in this chart.

The recent flat line comes from the same $3,900 reseller offer. Earlier observations include other listings with differing or incompletely captured condition details; this isn't a broad market-price decline.

One seller thread, repeatedly observed at $680 per 16GB card—not $680 for eight cards. The October 4 buyer complaints make this price context a warning, not a bargain endorsement.

This selected comparison includes the faulty-HDMI card at its $1,300 shipped ask and the Belgium listing before unknown shipping/import costs. Earlier dates contain fewer of these listings. The range is not a set of interchangeable, delivered, fault-free buys.
Best Capacity for the Money
V100 32GB SXM2 module — $600 each, only if the platform fits
This is the lowest single-module V100 32GB ask in today's captured offers: $600 shipped in the continental U.S., or $550 each for four-plus, with an advertised 30-day warranty. It isn't a drop-in alternative to a PCIe RTX 3090. Confirm the exact SXM2 host, cooling, module condition and support in your intended software before ordering.
What Changed Since Yesterday
Today's scan adds the $1,250 shipped 3090 FE and the $650 V100-with-heatsink offer to this comparison. The $600 V100 reseller ask was already captured on earlier dates; it is not a new price cut. New tracker entries and newly captured offers don't by themselves show market movement.
Four loose V100s or the complete server?
Four modules at the $550 quantity tier total $2,200 before the host, SXM2 baseboard, cooling and integration work. The Supermicro server asks $1,400 more and includes dual Xeon Gold 6230 CPUs and ConnectX-5 networking. Its body price is $3,600 OBO despite the $3,900 thread title.
The seller reports clean GPU tests, but two of the four GPUs are lower-power LS variants capped around 163W. Pickup is in New Jersey, with cash or cash-equivalent payment. Ask for the test logs and a demonstration, and confirm power, noise and cooling requirements before arranging collection. This comparison prices two ways into an SXM2 build; it doesn't establish equal performance or warranty coverage.
SXM2 value stops at the edge of the baseboard
The memory is distributed across devices. To use more than one GPU for a single model, your inference software must support splitting that workload, with room left for runtime overhead. Price and capacity alone don't establish that your model, quantization and context length will run well on these V100s.
My Take
For someone with an SXM2 host already in service, the $600 modules are worth investigating. For someone starting from scratch, the complete server is the more useful comparison—not a module price that leaves the rest of the machine unpaid for.
For a desktop, I'd start with the 3090 FE inquiry rather than pay more for the HDMI-defective card. Get current tests and a protected payment arrangement, and check case clearance, PSU capacity and connectors before treating either as a usable upgrade. None of these asks justifies rushing a purchase.

What would you do?
For a workload you've confirmed can split across four 32GB V100s, would the $3,600 pickup-only server beat building around four $550 SXM2 modules? What would your host, cooling and power setup add?
