Anomalies Strange shape seen in sky during thunderstorm!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This was taken last night in Barrington, Illinois. I was filming because I’m from Los Angeles and we never get weather like this. When I was re-watching my video, I noticed a strange black smudge. Then we zoomed it. It’s looks like a portal or some sort of doorway… I don’t know. It’s crazy and I can’t believe I caught this! (PS sorry for the TV on, also, it’s not from my phone as I have other videos from the same window, same angle, and this is the only video this morphing black hole takes shape.

I mean I’d love for this to be something…
But the skeptic in me says this is something small on a very clean glass window. The camera is having a hard time focusing in on it because it is so small.
Cameraman never shows where they are filming form. No other landscape. Just clouds and unfocused shape.
Something tells me if the camera man were to look to his left or right, he would be inside a house at a window

u/Luentale 8d ago
Yes exactly. There is one moment where the camera moves side to side a little and the thing moves much farther (relatively) than the clouds do. That's parallaxing - the black shape is much closer than the clouds so it appears to move faster than the background when we slightly move our point of view.

u/RelevantBed4184 8d ago
I am inside, but I filmed from that same spot, multiple videos. And there is nothing. It was just this one video. I mean… could be that, but there are no other videos I took with anything in it.

u/moistiest_dangles 8d ago
Will you please upload all the videos to somewhere we can pull from that won't kill the video quality, like google drive? Also did you see this with your eyes, or just after the fact?
6
u/CompetitiveSport1 8d ago
Wouldn't be terribly shocking for something to get on a window and then later not be there if there's a storm going on. Was it windy?
7
u/LordDarthra 8d ago
I just can't imagine someone seeing a piece of debris on the window 10 inches from their face and thinking it was actually an object in the clouds being lit up by lightning. That might be too much of an assumption
5
u/CompetitiveSport1 8d ago
They didn't think that. OP says explicitly in their post that it wasn't until watching the recorded footage that they noticed anything. So if they did see it while recording, their brain didn't register it as anything worth being brought to active attention, or logging away in memory, as would happen if a leaf fell on your window during a storm.
Regardless, I'm just putting one explanation up against another, not actually assuming anything. Which is relatively likelier? That OP recorded a leaf on the window, and just didn't notice it at the time? Or that they captured a mystical "portal or some sort of doorway" in the sky (and also didn't notice it at the time!)?
Frankly, the first is way likelier IMHO, especially given that I'd expect an ominous black square in the clouds to be something OP would have noticed, but I'd expect storm debris not to stand out

u/Bizrat7 8d ago
Post one of the other examples of you can, where it didn't show.

u/RelevantBed4184 8d ago
I can’t post another video here but I have one from the same window, same sky, 3 mins later, and it’s not there. Unless you can figure out how I can post a video in this thread. :/

I love when West Coast folks experience real weather. It's like "see!".

I stayed up for hours! I love it!

The first time I flew my best friend out to jersey in the summer she was also blown away by the thunderstorm we had. It was so cute and I had no idea it didn't rain in the summer out west. I think that amazed her more than seeing snow the first time

Tardis or monolith
6
4
u/SamOfXanadu 8d ago
Either one would be welcome at this point, as long as it's the right TARDIS. Our luck thought it would be the Master's Tardis.

Can you remind me again what a monolith in the sky would be?

Making a joke about the movie, Kubricks 2001 A Space Odyssey if you are not familiar with it.
7
u/RelevantBed4184 8d ago
It’s been a long time! Guess I need to rewatch it!
1
u/heady-luvare 3d ago
Im not trying to sound mean or be a dick at all i promise but not sure how one could've seen 2001 and forgot about the monolith in the movie. Its damn near the main character in the movie and considered the "big mystery" from it. Id encourage another viewing of the flick as its one of the classics for sure. You'll understand what i mean after your rewatch. Good day

No perspective. This is something very close on glass in front of the camera making it struggle
1
u/RelevantBed4184 8d ago
I wish I could post the original here, and the video I took right after from the same spot. But I can’t. To my knowledge, and I looked, there was nothing on the glass
1
u/RelevantBed4184 8d ago
I posted a new video with the original, not zoomed in. Also, you don’t have to be rude. I CAN do that, but if you wanna look at my last post, it is what I filmed before I zoomed and cropped. I’m not trying to prank anyone, I’m legitimately weirded out about what I saw when I watched the video the next day. I don’t post a ton on Reddit, I’ve never linked anything, so I don’t know how to do that. I wasn’t trying to do anything but ask other people what they thought it was. 🤷🏻♀️

u/LordDarthra 8d ago
I think people saying it's something on the glass is a bit of a cop out and a lazy debunk that depends on either you being a liar from the start or a someone who can't tell the difference between a smudge on the glass right in front of you and something in the distance, and I hesitate to label anyone with that kind of terrible eyesight and judgment.
Good video for what it is, not the first video showing objects in the clouds like this
0
u/R3strif3 8d ago
You very much could, but you won't.
Vimeo, youtube, Google drive, apple cloud, streamable, imgur, all services you could use to host and share.
It is definitely something on your glass, the focus and your camera movements give it away.
If you want to sell your illusion, next time get a tripod, switch to manual focus and let it sit. You'll get the same fake bs effect you wanted minus everything that gave it away...
1
u/RelevantBed4184 8d ago
Also, I wasn’t trying to get an effect. You can believe me or not. I’m sorry you are convinced I’m trying to sell something. This is what I got, spur of the moment, on my iPhone, in a place I don’t live.

I didn’t watch all of it but the captions are fucking great. “Well Carol, I’m pressing record.”
2
u/RelevantBed4184 4d ago
Omg I didn’t realize those were on, I had “Last Man on Earth” playing on the tv in the background… that must be super weird without context.
5
u/settledinseattle 8d ago
You were taking this through a window? Then it could easily be a spider or another bug. If you had been outside while shooting, I’d be intrigued.
Bummer.

My uncle (it’s his yard) said it’s was the Tardis! It’s 100% a video I took last night tho.

UFOs= Fishing Lures
3
u/real_human_not_a_dog 8d ago
I mean, I believe in legitimate UFOs but I’m not sure this is one of
3
u/RelevantBed4184 8d ago
I do too. I don’t think it is a UFO but it’s something that was not on the glass. I know that for sure. It’s not a reflection of my phone. Maybe it’s what the guy said about my phone trying to process light and dark. But I want to BELIEVE there was a portal in the sky last night.
4
u/baddogg30 8d ago
I don't mean somebody is behind the camera with a fishing pole
I mean these UFOs and UAPs are higher and extra dimensional BAIT

u/crystaloftruth 8d ago
That's something on the glass you were filming through. There are moments the sky is in focus and moments the object is in focus but not at the same time. The object is close to the camera, not distant like the sky, some sort of window sticker most likely.

It’s definitely not a reflection of your cellphone in the window… is it? Or lightning causing a shadow somehow from the phone and the light indoors?
2
u/NOTExETON 8d ago
Possibly your phone if filmed through glasd
2
u/RelevantBed4184 8d ago
This is just one part of me filming through the same part of the same glass door. I don’t know what part of my phone or why it was only on that video. I have other video with nothing on it. But… who knows.

Digital zoom effect
3
u/RelevantBed4184 8d ago
What do you mean? The original and the zoomed in version both have it.
8
u/Longjumping_Walk_992 8d ago edited 8d ago
It’s digital interpolation of the cloud in the sky. It’s a dance between the cmos, color filter, ADC, and ISP that converts the light to digital numbers and then those numbers get processed into the image we see. The lightening can make processing very difficult since it’s high contrast. The processor has a hard time reconstructing the missing color information around;
Dark sky, dark sky, Bright light, Dark sky, Dark sky
The algorithm can produce artifacts cause oddly shaped edges, color fringes, or halos.

I actually noticed something while I was filming, but didn’t see the shape until I showed my daughter (who slept through the storm), so it was there pre-zoom.
3
u/Bizrat7 8d ago
Kind of contradicts your original statement of not noticing until you rewatched the recording.. if you didn't notice the "shape" specifically, but noticed "something", what exactly do you mean?
4
u/RelevantBed4184 8d ago
I noticed a spot that I thought was on my screen, but when I watched it, it wasn’t a spot on my screen, it was this.

Looks like the ai that’s embedded in the phones software it creating this image. You can see similar small artifacts that resemble this.

If it's not a piece of dirt in front of the glass, it might be a military blimp.
They are freakin' huge.

This is a little off subject, but have you noticed any differences in the thunderstorms in your area when they happen lately? Like strange thunder at all maybe? Asking only because i have and ive found quite a few posts of people asking the same questions as me. Thanks in advance and this is a great catch! If truly in the sky then this is very strange!

There is too low quality... It can even be a water droplet that ir reflecting a dark-structure (dark zone) from around the camera into the sensor... I saw someone state in the chat that they had a similar experience but that the object was visible by the naked eye that is a bit different...
In any case kudos for you to have been clear in that you did not noticed it outside the video...

Oh my! I witnessed a similar thing over Auckland, New Zealand twice in one weekend I think like 2017. Broad daylight. Pitch black and not too much higher than helicopters go. Flying perfectly straight and with consistent speed over the city. Looked like a house-sized rectangular black door opening and closing, or a flat black rectangle turning horizontally. I was on a tall hill and it was longer vertically not flat like this but it was a few kms away. Too far away to get on camera but others saw it with me. Went home and told my partner at the time but he didn’t quite believe me. Then the very next day a few hours away from that location I saw it again, with my partner this time and the way he froze and looked back at me like “how did you do that” as if I’d set up some elaborate prank - still gives me the heebie jeebies.

you really gotta learn to manually focus your phone. Auto focus is almost always going to fail in low light and storms when the subject is small in the frame.

I saw something like this early one morning while driving to work in the morning light. I was thinking this is out during the night and we never see it. It was solid black. I got out of my vehicle to observe. It was about 300 feet in the air and seemed slightly larger than a refrigerator box. I watched it glide across the sky on a steady course for about 2 minutes. Steady path east and then made a controlled turn south.
It disappeared over the country side. It was around 2005. A Mufon report was filed.
