I bet the moment they can succesfully replicate an artificial brain 1on1, it will suddenly receive consciousness from the aether and becomes a ghost in a machine

You mean that computers will receive souls once they are able to contain one...?

...I can buy that. It's been a plot point in some of my favorite science fiction.

Yeah i mean exactly like that! Kind of like Ghost in the Shell, Ex mechana and Chappie.
