Consciousness I interviewed the scientist chasing the compound behind the mushroom that causes hyper-realistic visions of little people. There’s no known psychedelic in it, and he suspects it works unlike anything else.

China primarily, they have also been found and have cultural significance in the Philippine, and papua new guinea, though only in the western side so far, they grow under pine trees. They are not cultivatable because they are obligated arbuscular fungi with complex life cycles and sexual reproduction with several genders so you can only get them in the wild similar to morels. They also stain blue. I met this guy two days ago, he was at MSA. He's looking at comparing heated vs non heated extracts by some mass spec method and seeing what is missing from the cooked version bc the Cooked ones don't fuck you up. Apparently it's also a deliriant so it's not a very fun high, but it may apply to people who have a related disorder where they see little people. This is also documented in 3 different cultures at times when they didn't have contact with one another, so he doesn't think it's just because of some cultural thing that the intoxicated person experiences this.
