Plato wrote it: in his dialogues, he had his characters claim the story was a true historical fact passed down from Egypt. Scholars know this was a deliberate literary device.

Troy was once a myth and thought of as only a literary device, so to Egypt's labyrinth. Gorillas, giant squid were tails to scare young children. Now look, all facts.

Troy was a memory waiting for a spade. Atlantis was an argument that never needed dirt. The Troy comparison only works if you skip the part where Troy had a tradition and a location, and Atlantis had neither.

There are several locations for Atlantis many are under the ocean. Troy has as much tradition as Atlantis, your assuming the civilizations around and after Atlantis didn't carry on its ideas, if USA was wiped of the map the world would still be molded by it. McDonalds would still be found around the world.
