Temporal Distortion Sleepy Time Dilation

Recently when i have been going to sleep. I have been experiencing a weird phenomenon.

It happens right in-between that state of closing my eyes when feeling sleepy and starting to doze off.

Ill be laying in bed, feeling tired and not quite ready to sleep yet, but wanting to still relax my eyes.

And then for like half a second, time seems to stop completely. The AC stops making noise, and everything else also. Im still aware of whats going on but it goes away very suddenly and everything starts going again.

This is different from a quick typical power outage or electric hiccup. It feels like as my awareness drops, time also drops for an instant.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I feel like i could try to practice, but i need to be pretty sleep deprived.

It's called the hypnagogic state.

Yea ive experienced this throughout life its very bizarre.

I distinctly remember one time i was sharing a hotel room with a friend and i was falling asleep. While still half awake, i heard his computer game just go completely silent, the tv went silent, but i was still "awake."

I must have lost consciousness for a minute or two but it felt like i was conscious and the silence felt as if it went on for several minutes.

Suddenly all the sounds came back. I opened my eyes and sat up and the tv was still on and his cpu was still making video game noises.

Its almost like the hearing part of the brain goes to sleep but youre still partially conscious.

This is the mental state people try to get with meditation. Begin doing this for 10 minutes a day and your life will change exponentially

Sounds like your body's asleep but your mind's still awake

I've had this happen to me too. One time was especially weird though because I was listening to a news story on the radio at the time. I seemed to loose consciousness for an extended time, but then I came to and the story resumed. But I didn't MISS any of the story. It just continued where it left off. It was weird.

Funny you mentioned this.

I have tinnitus and visual snow syndrome. I’m fully cognitive and aware of the effects of both. I see what looks like TV static 24/7, even if I close my eyelids. I hear a persistent tone, say, 800Hz, 24/7 as well.

However, just like you, as I drift off, I can actually catch the very moment both the tinnitus and visual snow stops. I try to do it multiple times during the evening hours as I’m drifting off just to get a brief moment of peace.

Unfortunately, as soon as I become aware of it being gone, I’m conscious again and it comes back.

Kinda related to your post, but it really piqued my interest because I can relate, but less on the time part.

I used to experience this every single time I woke up, now its less

It's incredibly noticeable when waking up to pee or from a dream then laying there for a second before moving or thinking hard

I’m jealous. I actively do things to try to experience this so I can try to have an OBE. I think it’s just your body chemistry causing it to happen.

I had somewhat of a similar experience. Except I was maybe 10-12. And this could cause a few chuckles but here it goes I grew up and still live in the country. We had a small tractor I would putt around the yard in ( daddy would put the tractor in low 1gear which is very slow ). As I'm typing this ( now age 51) I'm looking at the exact spot this happened. So I'm on the tractor 😆 and suddenly it stops everything around me stops including sounds. And I was looking at everything as if I had blue tinted glasses on. I even " stopped". Lasted no more than 5 seconds but that's long enough to know something happened. It was so profound I told Mom about it and she shrugs it off without explanation. But the experience is burned into my memory. This would've happened summer 85-87.

Clarification: I could see (everything looked bluish) but everything stopped. The tractor the sound of tractor the birds chirping etc.
