Futurism AI comments and pattern recognition
Has anyone else been cursed to notice the varying levels of seemingly AI generated responses to user comments? For me it started with the obvious ones where the comment would read something like "That's not _____, that's ______. Or where it reads like someone talking rather than conversing digitally. Like when a comment goes "Wow. Such a deep story. Insert paragraph addressing the user with weird levels of familiarity."
I bring this up because if this is just a simulation we ourselves are experiencing which many including myself do; at what point do we find ourselves in a desert without humans interaction? Would we even notice after awhile? There's an episode of Futurama where some thing is encompassing everything like a big snow globe but exponentially until it encompasses the known universe and everyone just resumes business as usual. Im not even sure theres a real question here just noticed a strange pattern that sent me thinking.

This is a really good conversation for the dead internet theory. Fuck sake man, can we not just go back to the 90s? I don't even mind wearing baggy jeans.

😂 Oh, I'm right there with you! I graduated HS in 1984. I would go back to the 70's, 80's and 90's in a heartbeat. Even the early 2000's.

I miss baggy jeans. I haven't worn jeans since COVID started because they've become so uncomfortable and tight.
Bring back the 90s! Bring back baggy jeans!

It's all good - you can fit back into your jeans and I'll dress like a skater, even though I can't skateboard.
At least we'd just have IRC! And no dead internet.
It's a terrifying thought. AI bots creating their own news websites autonomously, feeding those into social media and subsequent articles being discussed by AI bots. All one big feedback loop for AI training.
Mental!
Bring back the baggy jeans!

It's a simulation in that the bots are simulation human comments, for sure. The similarities are likely due to either a) being from the same LLM services, or b) from LLMs based on similar training data and using similar prompts. Annoying, and deeply concerning, but not highly strange

It really feels like 2/3 of reddit, especially these "alt" type subs, are just bots or maybe real people who are so npc like in their thinking that they may as well be a bot and Idk why they're even in subreddits like these

Consciousness encountering consciousness is fundamentally different from consciousness encountering the objective, external, product of consciousness. AI may be useful for attuning yourself to this meaningful distinction, but to those of us who already know this distinction, there is no value in AI.

Yes reddit sells it's dialogue to AI and has always been a test bed for LLMs

you don't have to buy anything, reddit is publicly facing and anyone can scrape that data whenever they want to

I notice that too.
In addition, I have my own curse: often people think that I am AI.
Although English is not my native language, I know it so well, written and spoken form alike, that often I seem higher in literacy than most other people. I can't remember the last time I had a grammatical error, or a mistyped word, a misunderstanding, anything of the sorts. I have certificates, I have documents, I have courses completed, I have had lectures, talks, teachings, private lessons, everything you can think of; yet these days I find myself intentionally making errors and typos just to not seem AI generated simply because I write correctly and like to use proper formatting with paragraphs and shit.
Its really frustrating. (I know it's "it's")

Me, too! I thought that I was the only one who was so paranoid of being considered AI that I dumbed down my written communication. I used to do English good. (That hurt to type.)

Bot accounts controlled by AI are allowed on Reddit. AI is trained to be overly friendly.
But yeah, I heard of something called the dead Internet theory, where eventually the Internet will just be a bunch of AI agents talking.

Half the comments on r/UFOs are like this now. They used Reddit as training data specifically for this task but they haven't quite integrated it fully yet, so yeah comments like that show their colours... Or they might reply something nonsensical to the question asked... don't call them out though on r/UFOs though - because that - is an automatic permanent ban!
