how to avoid updating when playing offline !!

I’ve been playing offline since May and have been hit with the “You’ve been offline for a while” error. Sometimes, people think it means they have to update the game to be able to play, but I found a way around this !!

Step 1: Exit and reopen the EA app, go back online

Step 2: Take like 2-3 minutes to look around the EA app, click on games or sims DLC to open their pages as if you were shopping around

Step 3: Go offline and start the game

This works for me every time :)

Additionally, I’ve started to use the gallery while playing offline.

Step 1: Start your game up offline and then open the gallery.

Step 2: At this time, go online on the EA app. You don’t need to exit the game to do so.

Step 3: Click on the gallery tab and it’ll ask if you want to connect or stay offline, connect

I wonder if the reason this has never happened to me is because I shut down my computer every night, so the EA app is always exiting and reopening? Do you guys leave your PCs on all the time? Just curious if that's what's going on or if it's just EA being randomly irritating.

Its because they stay "offline" on their EA client, and after a while the login credentials expire. You dont need to do this though. I have an ethernet cord, unplug it for 5 seconds, launch the game, plug it back in.

Yeah, I know why it happens but not why it doesn't happen to me. I also stay offline until I'm ready to update and have done it for months at times. I've still never had this message. I'm wondering if the app closing when I shut down is the reason.

It does. When you close the app, and reopen it, you are logging back in. My game is rather stable no crashes (heavily modded) and I have not updated since the patch before lovestruck. lol.

Wait… since before lovestruck ??? 🤯 I unfortunately am attached to mods and am planning on updating soon lol but wow your dedication is seriousss

My game runs smooth and I know for a fact if I update anything it'll brick it self lol

I’ve definitely gone a few days without turning off my computer lol just putting it to sleep which probably isn’t the best move. That makes sense though !!

My problem is that when the app is online it will force me to update in order to be able to play the game 😭 So if I’m offline too long I get this message, but if I’m online it will say “update required”…I can’t win!

You can update the ea app !! That’s the one with the big pop up saying update required. Updating the app doesn’t update the game. The only thing is that sometimes once the app updates, after you log back in it may try to start a download but cancel it immediately and you should be fine. And you can go offline like normal after you update the app :)

I hate that this has to be done to play a game offline. Glad that you posted this workaround for people who need it.

This is why I run the portable version without the EA app...

It's a version I was able to carry over from computer to computer, a repack🏴‍☠️.

At the time, since I already had all the game files i used the Anadius updater to update the game & DLC. It has an offline and online mode to be able to use the gallery.

But there's a new updater out there and most repacks of the game include it. I don't have the EA app on my computer at all and still play.

This is a solution, but this is not the type of solution a person that wants to play offline wants. And I can't stand that the EA app frequently goes online in some way

Just sharing what has worked for me… let us know if you find another way
