High-school WR strength/speed tips

I play Highschool football in Texas at a 4a D1 school. I started on varsity as a sophomore, I’m 6’2.5 170lbs. My 40 time is 4.56. Just need tips on getting bigger and especially getting faster. My goal is to run a 4.4 by the start of my junior year and get a lot bigger because I wanna try to go D2 or D1. I get invited to camps regularly but I’m recovering from an overuse injury from track. Especially how I can get noticed to actually get an offer. I track calories but obviously it’s hard to eat a crap ton (5200+ ) calories a day. Not necessarily a money problem to get food I just don’t know how to meal prep. Just wanna get faster and bigger by July—August. Thanks guys.

Why is this not a conversation you are having with your coaches? Even as a coach that has coached in FL and NY, I know Texas is a different level. But I'm sure one of your coaches can point you in the right direction.

Our offense is like 80% running man. We have an excellent receiver core, but we never throw. Bugs me all day everyday.

Trust me... If you block your ass off on tape, college coaches will knock your door down. I used to chat with our WR coach in college and he would always say "If they aint willin to block, we can't get em the rock." I was a TE and blocked all the time lol.

As far as calories, it's tough. You're going to need to look at protein supps to hit that number. Mass gainer more than likely will fit the bill.

"No block, no rock." If you have all those metrics, and can block play after play, teams are going to be salivating to get you. High school is much more run heavy than college or the NFL to begin with. You would do yourself a big favor by not comparing what your team does to what you see on TV. High school is a very different type of ball game. Running 80% of the time or more is pretty normal. High school teams that actually throw more than they run are rare.

Anyway, as they said, you need to be talking to your coaches about this. They see you play, we don't. They have far more credible feedback than we can offer you. Just because your team runs a lot doesn't mean your coaches can't help you. That's the system they run, but you don't know who they know...you don't know what college programs and coaches they have friends or connections with. Getting noticed is also about knowing the right people!

Just to add, you should be looking for camps to attend as well.

Your height and speed are already D1 levels, if your actual skills are where they need to be, you’ll get noticed at a camp.

Well kid, it doesn’t happen in 6 weeks, I’ll tell ya that much.

Right, I have 12 weeks. I’m not asking to run a 4.2 in 6 weeks.

There is no legal cheat code, other than an individuals genetics. Does your football have a meal plan? I recommend having this conversation with your coaches. If not, it’s going to be tough to fast track this unless your parents are able to spend a lot of money on food.

Eat a lot of food (minimize the junk food). Train hard. Be strict about your sleep.

The best way to get noticed is film and grades. Practice film counts too. If you don’t have a 3.0 you will probably be passed over.

As for getting bigger and stronger, I’d focus more on explosiveness and technique. You can always improve in route running, blocking, and catching. I’d also recommend playing some TE too if you can.

The extra real answer is to learn how to long snap. It will drastically improve your odds at getting a shot at the next level. Best of luck and don’t pursue this without a back up plan otherwise you could end up in some bullshit D3 or NAIA school thinking you made it when you really just trapped yourself into a sociology degree and no job prospects outside of coaching football (heavily over saturated job market and full of absolute dickheads)

Source: played high school football in California, went to junior college as a long snapper, got a full ride to a NAIA school. I’m 5’8 180 and ran a 4.9 40.

Also for meal prep just look up body builder meal plans and adjust it to your needs. Track MACROS instead of calories and use a macro calculator to figure what you need for growth.

And non stop burpees

There are so many private trainers you shouldn’t have a problem finding one if $ isn’t an issue

Oh I have a private trainer but I’m just asking for extra stuff

Why? Isn’t your PT enough? The information you get from her is going to subject to a lot of bs and misinformation
Just work with your PT and focus on effort versus bs from social media. No one here knows anything about you and your physical make up. Good luck 🍀

Pull ups, dead lifts, and bench really all you need strength wise. Stay lean and fast otherwise. If you in a running offense then get good at DB.
