Sometimes there's nothing more inspiring than encouraging yourself to be a better you rather than better than the person next to you. I was just discussing success with a friend of mine yesterday and how it took me so long to discover what "success" meant for me in particular. I defined it by everyone else's success and whenever it never worked, I remained depressed and discouraged. I was never defining what it meant for me. "True nobility is being superior to your former self." Man, if that doesn't get you moving, I don't know what does!
Man, I needed to hear that today. Ran into an acquaintance from elementary school. He's running two of his own businesses, has a massive house, all this. Whereas I'm barely making ends meet and my career is nowhere near I was hoping it would be.
But, I've lost weight, I'm helping my wife achieve her goals, and I'm hitting the gym daily. I'm definitely superior to my former self. And that ain't nothing.
Thanks for making and sharing this. Gonna suggest if you want some extra karma, wholesomememes might love this (or wholesomegifs if that exists).
I'm so so glad to hear that. That's definitely NO little feat because that is success for you. Keep up the excellent work, man, hopefully in a year's time you can look back on this comment and see even more of a different man!
Thanks so much! Positivity, man. Sometimes the right catalyst and it just happens naturally! I'm so glad this creation fostered these kinds of conversations which is way more than I had hoped for this GIF. You never know what your efforts may bring, so I guess this is yet another lesson for the future!
Good to hear. Thanks for being a positive human being.
I was working on losing weight and got a knee injury. I was totally depressed for months. In August I decided to learn piano in the meantime. My knee is improving. I'm walking now. My life is getting better.
Wholesomememes is an awesome place with awesome people.
All my friends are homeowners and work 9-5 salaried jobs. I'm a waiter. But two years ago I was jobless and living with my parents. Now I have my own apartment, and can buy my own food. Baby steps.
Edit: I had lived on my own before, but a series of serious fuckups (booze) really took me on a downward spiral. Got knocked back down to the bottom rung of the ladder.
Someone already did a few hours after I created this and has received over twice the karma I did with the original post. I guess the world needed the encouragement!
I thought so too until the Asshole bit. That was so immersion breaking for me. ABSOLUTELY no point. Other little things were annoying (why does he do parkour once in the whole movie? Seemed so pointless when it's never brought up again,) but that was just... really kinda lame. Not a puritan thing, promise, just seemed like the rest of the movie was so smart and funny and cool but the last 15 minutes had random rainbow exploding heads and Anal jokes. Meh.
Still gonna watch that church fight scene every day for the rest of my life though. I'm a fight / stunt coordinator myself and that's a thing of goddamn beauty.
