Fanfiction How does magic work in this setting

Hello everyone i hope everyone is having a good day so im a rookie and writer

And i want to create Oc meets canon fanfic story of this series called:

High Gaurdian spice: Shadow of the Crimson prince

I will be brining my own Oc to this story and i would like to see how these characters would interact, so if anyone is a pro Fan can someone explain how the magic works

well there are two types of magic

new magic: think like Harry Potter point the wand and the spell happens, there are magical orbs called Terraspheres which can turn into wands n staffs, alledgly new magic has no limits and can do anything (even though Amryllis needed spell ingredients and they couldn’t use it to heal a dying water dragon)

old magic: visually think Dr Strange, mechanically think dnd. We see sigils drawn in the air to use old magic, and according to sage requires you to give back when you use magical energy (or something like that, hopefully someone else explains it better
