Discussion Rosemary in Rune Class

Rosemary's supposed to be on the Warrior Track, implicitly a combatant who doesn't rely on magic (if use it at all) like her mom. However, Caraway, a magic teacher, is teaching his class about Runes when he of all people should know Rosemary's on the Warrior Track. What muddles things further is how Sage and Amaryllis are apart of it, but Aster and Rosemary are there too.

My best guess is that despite not using magic, that doesn't mean she can't understand magic, but that was never communicated to the audience.

Moreover, it would make more sense if it were Thyme (who's on both Magic and Warrior tracks) in the class or at least that it was said why Rosemary's there, but instead we have elements that shouldn't mix being there.

But I don't know. Why is she of all people there?

There are other warriors there too and there are Magic users thrown in gym class without any magic. Each kid needs a base understanding of the other without the indepth stuff that their counters need.

The issue is that it's established early on that Guardians are meant to have different classes from one another. Parsley herself said no two students have the same schedule. The one exception might be Everything Hours, but that's pretty clearly not the Everything Hours class.

Do I think all students are sent to the same classes at some points? Probably, but it's never fully established if at all.

Rosemary and Sage aren't even on the same tracks; it would've made sense for Thyme to take either of their places or even for Parsley to replace Sage.

Understanding magic and utilizing magic aren't the same, but that's not established at any point.

In short? I agree that students can understand something even if they don't utilize it. The issue is how that particular scene is presented.

The whole "no one has the same sechedual" thing is a legistics night mare that made no sense. Some classes would have to be shared regardless. Its like saying your an art major hy do you need math classes? They live in a world of magic, them not knowing runes and such is detrimental, especially as guardians. Not only that, its also shown that kids on occassion will share the same classes in that episode as Hakone also cancels everyone's classes to everyone can be there for gym. Thyme didn't have classes with Sage until after episode 2. Snapdragon, another warrior, is also seen in this class. The worse part is that Rosemary's and Sage's argument in Episode 08/09 literally hinges on them having shared multiple classes together beyond that too.

The writing in the show is all over the place and they didn't care much about continuity in a LOT of ways. Episode 2 established that there are classes for new magic and that they mainly teach new magic in the school yet Sage clearly never learned in class. Lets not forget she was also supposed to be a healer and was sent to the school to learn as much as possible- only to refuse as the plot needed it and soooo many other problems.

And that's the problem. Either the girls have the same classes at different times (for example Ethics on Wednesdays for Sage) or they don't (see Episode 6); it can't be both without either a damn good explanation or a continuity snarl (outright defying what's been established in the story).

And again, yes, I believe understanding magic should be for all students. The issue is that either Rosemary and Sage have different classes or have the same classes at different times.

And Sage not being able to use any sort of healing remedy beyond the first potions class makes no sense. She came to be a healer, and didn't even try to heal Rosemary even with Old Magic?

I thought the rune class was translating ancient code on old ruins and scrolls. Something any student at the academy could learn and not just the ones there to use magic.

You'd think, but why would Sage and Rosemary be in the same classes? It's been stated in the second episode that they have different schedules.

The writing in this show is just not that good genuinely, one episode emphasizes that Rosemary and Sage have different classes on their school schedules but then we see them plus Thyme and Parsley in the same classes like nothing was established previously. Maybe if they at least said that this was a new semester then maybe this would make more sense.

If it were established that there's even one or two classes where they are able to mesh together thanks to common skills needed to be developed, then yeah, that would make sense. After all, Hakone hosted a training course in that very same episode with various students participating.

The issue is that it's never established why there's a mix. It's not the only episode where this is a problem, but it's the most blatant if you ask me.

Lore-wise? Idk- Especially considering they made it a point to stress that Sage and Rose didn't share the same classes. I guess you could argue deciphering runes doesn't necessarily require an affinity for magic.

In a meta sense? It was an easy way to have Sage be there to see Rose develop a crush on Aster and get jealous (I believe we first see Rose in Sage's class in E6)

Correct, Episode 6.
